Getting Kody ready for school was never easy. First he refused to get off the bed, bath was not a problem, but then he hated all the clothes I picked out for him. Breakfast was an odyssey because his idea of a healthy meal still consisted of plain bread and the children's cereal that had enough sugar in one scoop to give a grown alpha a glucose coma. On top of all of that he developed a profound hate for the car seat.

But once we got past all of that it was actually pretty easy to manage the rest of the day. I walked him to the front gates, swinging his little hand. He let go of my hand and ran up to his teacher.

"Bye, love you mom!" He shouted, waving his hand back at me aimlessly. His golden locks bounced as he ran away like a mad man.

He needs a haircut.

He looks adorable.

"I love you too baby, be good okay?" I huffed but let it go because apparently seven year olds went through little outbursts of independence from time to time, or so said doctor Ying. I went to sign him in instead.

Overall I was happy that Kody was becoming more independent. He started second grade a few weeks ago and things have been going decent. I initially thought that he was going to give the teachers hell when he started to get frustrated with the words he didn't understand during reading time, but according to the reports he was doing great. And there I was thinking that he never paid attention when I read him bedtime stories.

"Hi mister Moony, how are you today?"

"I'm great, Collins, how is my favorite secretary?" I casually let a cookie slide onto the counter. His face lit up when he saw it. I scoffed, If anyone saw our little interaction from afar I'm pretty sure they'll think I'm giving him drugs.

"Mister Moony, I just want you to know that out of all the parents here, you're definitely the best." Collins smiled at me.

"Thanks, Collins." I signed the paper and handed it back to him.

After leaving Kody at school it was off to work. My stay at home dad days were over since Parrish left and the other job I had taking calls didn't pay all the bills. It wasn't bad since I actually liked this new job. June came to me with the ad for a job as a park ranger assistant one day when I was in the middle of a breakdown in her living room.

"You should apply for it, it doesn't pay much but it's only from nine to five. I could go pick up Kody on your work days."

"June, I couldn't ask you to do that. You have your own kids to worry about." I gestured at the very visible baby bump on her stomach. As much as I appreciated the offer it was not okay for me to burden June like that.

"Then what are you gonna do? It's not like you're going to ask Veronica for help, are you?"

I stayed quiet after that. Veronica, like Piotr, had tried to persuade me into understanding why Parrish had to leave. It was unexpected to have her of all people taking Parrish's side, but I also wasn't expecting June to stand by me. The first few days I was in despair. Crying every night and uselessly calling Parrish's phone hoping that he would pick up so I could beg him to come home. June and Vero saw all of that.

Vero told me to wait it out for him but June was done with Parrish. She also didn't understand why Parrish left like that. She helped me get back on my feet and I still can't get the image of seven month pregnant June yelling at my boss because he wouldn't let me have a day off to celebrate Kody's birthday.

Eventually I found my footing. With June's help and the money I reluctantly had to take from Parrish's dad, I found an affordable daycare that Kody was comfortable in. I got in contact with Caleb again, we got close in a really short time. He's the one picking Kody up from school and dropping him at daycare. We were more or less okay now.
