Parrish wore a bowtie to the showroom. A stupid bowtie and I couldn't make fun of him for that because he looked cute. Since I had no reason to be mad at him at the moment I took a look around the improvised gallery. I've been to about a dozen of these so Kody wasn't interested in showing me around. He stuck to Parrish and I glanced at them from time to time.

Kody was all smiles and giggles. I liked that. When Parrish left it felt like joy vanished from our lives. There wasn't much laughter in the house but now Kody's smiling without a care in the world.

And it's all thanks to Parrish. Isn't that wonderful? We should ask him to move back in.

Shut up you whore.

"Excuse me, are you Kody's dad?"

I heard someone ask, I was about to answer when Kody beat me to it.

"Yes!"

Then I realized that the person who asked wasn't talking to me. It was one of the omegas mothers. I've seen that little koala in the parent's conferences and she never once said a word to me. She knew I was Kody's dad but she was talking to Parrish who had Kody up in his arms.

"I just wanted to tell you that you're doing a wonderful job with Kody. He's such a well behaved boy." From the flirtatious tone of her voice you wouldn't assume that she was married.

What a whore.

I scoffed but didn't say anything.

Of course she thinks Parrish did all the hard work. She has never once seen him in the school but because he has a pretty face he gets all the praise. Parrish was probably going to give her that stupid confident smile of his and say 'oh yes, thank you, my boy is the best isn't he?'.

"Thank you," Parrish said, "but my mate here is the one that keeps him in check." He looked at me and smiled.

Oh.

My heart stopped for a second, just to start beating again like I just ran a marathon. I thought that I needed to get that checked because there was no way in hell that my heart was beating faster for one smile of his.

"Oh," the omega looked at me, sounding disappointed.

Yes, bitch, you heard it. That's my mate, now move along.

"That's my mom. He's good at cooking. He makes all my lunches."

"I see, that's nice. Well, I'll leave you to it." The omega gave Kody a tight smile and turned around to leave.

"Go play with your friends." Parrish said, putting Kody down.

Kody looked at him, probably dying to tell him that he didn't have friends, but he seemed to understand something in the way Parrish spoke to him so he walked away.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to call you that. I just- you know, it was to make her leave." He stared at his feet, the same way Kody did when I was scolding him.

He's embarrassed, look at that cute blush.

"It's fine, just don't do it again." I looked away from him. There was a smile threatening to form on my face and I didn't want him to see that. There was a breeze of rotten berries, it was subtle but I knew it came from him.

Now you made him sad. Way to go.

"This one's good, right?" He pointed at the painting hanging in front of us. It was one of Kody's.

I could tell it was the three of us, sitting on a swing. Like the one on the cabin we rented when we went camping. Kody put a lot of effort into Parrish's curls and it showed. I recognized the same flower beds that were sitting on the front porch. The chains of the swings have spots of bronze, emulating rust. It's impressive that he remembered that many details from that trip.
