Parrish did go back to therapy, cut back on the hours at the hospital. I kept an eye on him, to make sure he didn't drink. We stopped buying alcohol and we even started 'that couple therapy thing' like he suggested. Well, I suggested it first if I remember correctly but we finally followed through after that day.

I had to find a job since Parrish was staying at home more. Something simple, tech support for an internet company. It didn't pay much but I could work from home and all I did was tell a bunch of old people to unplug and plug in their routers.

I was doing just that while Kody perfected his technique in water colors on the kitchen table. Looking at the messes he makes in the kitchen made me think that I should turn the basement into a little art studio for him. He's always so calm when painting.

"Okay, I pressed the button but it's still not working." my newest old client, Olivia, called to ask why her little internet box wasn't working

"Ma'am, can you tell if the yellow light is blinking?"

"What yellow light?"

"There should be a yellow light right next to the red one."

"Oh, dearie, there are no lights on this thing, love."

"Is there any chance that it might not be plugged in?"

"Plugged into what, love?

Oh dear Selene, give me strength.

"Into the outlet, ma'am."

"Hang on, let me check," she paused, to bend down and check I assumed, because I heard her bones crack and for a minute I was scared that I was going to have to call her and ambulance. "Oh!" she shouted.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"Oh, yes, love. It's that I plugged the little box into the outlet and it lit like a Christmas Tree! How cute! Can I make the lights change colors too?"

I laughed, a laugh of relief that this old lady was not dying, "no, ma'am but if they make one that let's you do that, I promise I'll let you know."

"You're such a good boy, are you single by any chance? I have a daughter and she-

"I'm sorry to disappoint ma'am, but I am in fact happily mated and have a kid." I glanced at Kody, he looked back at me when he felt me staring. I smiled and he smiled.

Gosh, he's so perfect.

"Ow, all the good ones are, aren't they? Oh! The internet started working! Did you do that love? Thank you so much!"

"You did it, actually, by plugging in the router." I regretted the words as soon as they left my mouth. The first thing I learned in this job is that you should never try to explain how things work to old people.

It's like trying to teach a toddler rocket science.

"The what?"

Scratch that, it would be easier to teach a toddler rocket science.

"Oh, it doesn't matter, do you need help with anything else ma'am?"

"No, love, unless you can help me get some grandkids."

I politely laughed, "well then, in that case I hope you have a great rest of the evening."

"You too, love. Bye, bye."

That was my last call of the day. I was finally free to enjoy the arts and crafts of my little cub. Right on cue, Kody lifted his drawing to show it to me. It appeared to be something with a very large head and an equally large black hat. Kody mostly draws people, so I knew it had to be a person but I had no idea who that was.
