Sanctuary Infrastructure: Part 2

The Sanctuary can be split into three different sections. These are the Western District, originally Oasis Valley, the Central District, located in the area blocked by the giant cactus Monster, and the Eastern District is what had been the Wild East. Districts are not limited to the borders of the original towns.

When Sanctuary residents mention the Wild East, they mean the Eastern District. When residents of the Greater Underground mention the Wild East, they mean the entire Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is surrounded by walls, natural and built, with gates to the outside world on the west and the east side, with multiple watch towers everywhere. The east gate leads to the Mines and the rest of the Dunes. The West leads to Sunnyside Farm. Despite the tight borders, the walls don't create a feeling of being trapped. The inner side of the walls is decorated with beautiful murals of the Surface. There are also several patches of grass, flower beds and trees across the Sanctuary, meant to make it as comfortable as possible.

Many of the buildings which had originally been in Oasis Valley were torn down and replaced or expanded. There are proper roads now connecting all the buildings. Café Dune got an extension and now has more seats and tables. The Flower Girls also set up their own florist shop in the area which doubles as a gardening HQ. It takes a lot of effort to maintain all this new flora in a desert-like environment, even with magic.

The central district is what could be considered the industrial district. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, some factories and workshops, the Sheriff's Office and a museum dedicated to human history and the children who lost their lives to Monsterkind's thirst for vengeance. All the factories are up north with the more leisure-based facilities are in the south.

The Sheriff's Office is a two-story building with a very Wild West interior with modern appliances all around. The entrance, which is on the left, leads to a reception area. Straight ahead are stairs which lead to the upper floor. The door on the right leads to the interrogation rooms, evidence lockers and the armoury. The is also a door at the back which leads to an outdoor training area. There is a chainlink fence around it and all the Monsters train either physically or magically. Interacting with them will have some mention that they need to be ready for when the Greater Underground sends the Royal Guard. Upstairs houses the general office area where most of the Monsters work. It is also where North Star's personal office is located.

Nice Cream Guy actually opened a full-on Ice Cream Parlor in the area. He originally moved only because members of his family did but it turns out the desert environment was great for business.

"Almost makes the fact that the Underground is at the brink of war worth it... It really doesn't."

There is a school on the south side of the district. It teaches the usual subjects such as Math and whatever language Monsters speak, but it also has some more unique classes such as Human Interactions and Human Culture. These classes are designed to teach Monsters how to safely interact with a human without them mistaking you for a threat. For example, don't express yourself with magic bullets. Magic hurts.

The hospital was relocated to this district as well. It's been modernized and received upgraded equipment (a 'gift' from Dr Alphys). A handful of staff educated themselves on human biology and at least one of these staff members is on duty at all times in case Clover or another human requires emergency medical attention that green magic alone won't fix.

At the centre of the Central District, and by extension, the whole Sanctuary, there is the Sanctuary's Museum. This building serves as a reminder of what the Sanctuary stands for. Peace between Humans and Monsters. In front of the building is a statue of a human and a Monster, hands interlocked and raised in the air. They're not supposed to resemble any individual but because of reasons, the human ended up looking like a cowboy and the Monster being a goat.

The exhibits circle the interior of the building, each showing off whatever scraps of human history and culture which fell into the dump. Examples of human warfare, cruelty and darkness as well as their kindness, creativity and endless drive to reach new heights are displayed. The space exhibit is by far the most popular, with JFK's speech about landing a man on the moon going as far as to save some Monsters from Falling Down.

At the centre of the museum, is a room dedicated to the victims of Monsterkind's own cruelty. The Six Fallen Children. Signs of Dalv's work are all over this room, with him being credited for gathering almost every piece of information, with Toriel being his most credited source.

In the room, there is a massive painting. It is a majestic work of art of a young Clover leading the Fallen Children out of the Underground and into the sunlight. The children are placed in the following order; Patience, Bravery, Perseverance, Kindness, Integrity and Clover. The painting is simply given the name, 'The Fallen'.

Side note, I haven't decided on the appearances of the Fallen Children but I always headcanon Patience as Marine from the webcomic, The First Human. I recommend giving it a read.

When Frisk interacts with the painting, this message appears; "You feel a powerful kinship with the children in the painting. They are your people."

The items of the Fallen Children had been also gathered from across the Underground, and placed on pedestals in front of their respective owners with glass cases protecting them. Integrity's pedestal shows signs of having been vandalised and cleaned multiple times.

Chara also has a small display as the first human to fall into the Underground.

What had originally been the Wild East has been heavily expanded. The home of the Fiesty Five's home was converted into an entire apartment complex, expanding into where the hospital originally was. The Jail was expanded and received tighter security. Blackjack's store appears the same but he now has a whole metalwork factory in the central district, supplying weapons to the Sanctuary's army as well as construction materials. The Saloon is essentially unchanged.
