Warning! This is part one of two, the second part being a lemon!
Being Nekoma's only manager was hectic. The boys were difficult to control, borderline chaotic but they were all very talented at volleyball and it was their passion. Before joining the club as their manager I was never really interested in the sport but I had to join an extra curricular activity so I decided to join the team. Since then my interest in volleyball grew, and I was now in my second year, my love for the sport having evolved, so I put up with their hyper personalities for the sake of their talent and sportsmanship.
The main annoying things I had to put up with in the team was Yamamoto's constant flirting, Lev's over-the-top personality and the rather irritating captain who liked to tease me endlessly about the fact I was only 4' 11". Given the fact he was over 6' I had to crane my neck to look up at him, this being something he liked to poke fun at. In a similar manner to Yaku I always got very annoyed at these jabs but unlike with Yaku, he continued to tease.
I had tried to ask fierce and feisty but he always just laughed and called me 'adorable', this always flustering me and throwing me off which he also always noticed and took advantage of. It was fair to say he was a rather frustrating to be around, as not only was he immensely annoying, he was also immensely attractive.
All of my friends fawned over him, not afraid to show it, and always spoke about how lucky I was to be in Kuroo's presence everyday. I tried to hide the fact that they were right by saying how many jokes he made he wasn't always trying to tease me. The times he wasn't were times when he was just chatting with me normally, or getting protective over me when we went on summer camps.
It was these times that made me feel special. He'd get protective whenever he saw another player from a different team talk to me, and he'd always make sure to ask me if I was okay. It was these moments that made me feel special, and it was moments like those that made me fall for him more and more. I tried desperately to shake these feelings, telling myself to get over them and despite knowing I'd miss him I was hoping that when he graduated at the end of the school year I'd be able to overcome my feelings for him then.
I hadn't outright told anyone of my feelings but I had a feeling that some of the volleyball members could take and educated guess as I liked to stare at him out of the corner of my eyes, something I had to be snapped out of on multiple occasions. I tried to ignore these feelings, get them out of the way but it wasn't easy - focussing on the sport was the best thing for me to do.
As I approached the gym after changing out of my uniform I groaned, remembering that coach Naoi announced yesterday that we would be testing jumping heights today. It was one of my least favourite activities to do as it required me climbing a tall ladder to measure how high the boys could jump. When I walked into the gym I saw they were already doing there stretches and I greeted the coaches before heading to the equipment room to grab the pot of chalk the players would dip their fingers into, then trying to haul the large ladder over my shoulder which was not an easy task.
"Looks a bit too heavy for you," a recognisable voice said behind me and I groaned under my breath, putting the ladder down and turning to see the captain. "I'll take that, don't think you're strong enough-,"
"I'm strong enough!" I said firmly and he just laughed, ruffling my hair as he walked past me to grab the ladder, taking it out of the equipment room himself. I growled and followed him out, watching him lean the ladder against one of the basketball hoops in the gym. I placed the pot of chalk next to the ladder, grabbing the tape measure ready to measure everyone's heights.
"Inuoka, hold the ladder for (l/n)," Naoi called out, and as I climbed the first few rungs I realised this was not a sturdy ladder. Not only that but with someone as childish as Inuoka keeping it steady for me made me nervous.
