AURORA DANIELS

♡♡♡♡♡♡

The funny thing about family is that they usually seem to pop out when they need something.

Do you remember Isadora? Well, yeah.

We haven't spoken since our fight, nor did she reach out to ever apologize to me. Yet, now that she's got this new boyfriend, she's been blowing up my phone to 'reconcile', which was just her way of saying that she needed me to babysit.

Though I didn't mind babysitting my niece, it did irk me that this was how she chose to reach out to me.

However, ever since I spent the week with my granddad. I decided to be the bigger person and move on.

Sometimes, when you have no family, you have to hold on to the little that you do have.

I kept my responses with her short and curt. My interactions with her were minimal. If she needed me to babysit Quinn, she'd either have to drop Quinn off at my workplace, or I'd have Soren drive me to pick her up.

I know it seemed harsh, but I needed Izzy to know that she couldn't use me. And though I didn't mind my niece,  I was not one to be taken advantage of.

Yet her messages pinged relentlessly on my phone. I grabbed my phone, glancing at the messages.

Izzy: Can I see you? Please.

It was out of character for her to be so pushy.  In our family, we could hold a grudge for days. Heck, my mum held a grudge with this one lady who bought the last soft pretzel at one of the carnival stands.

I sighed heavily, taking a screenshot of the notification and sending it to Soren. I needed a second opinion on what I should do. And Soren being the level-headed person he was, (well as level-headed as he could get)

Soren: Do what you feel is best, Amore. Maybe just see her just this once to get it out of the way.

Me: I don't know.

Soren: I'm not going to force you to speak to her. Do what you want, Amore. I support you.

I frowned at his text, though he didn't quite say it, I knew he'd also want me to make amends to an extent, of course.

I sent him the middle finger emoji as a response before moving on to my text thread with Izzy.

Me: Sure, we can go to that one cafe near your building, I finish work at 3 pm. So meet at 4?

Izzy: sounds great, see you there!

I began to gather my things from the desk, looking at my wristwatch, trying to decide whether it was worth it to go home and change before meeting Isadora.

Just as I was about to walk out of my office, I was backed in by my boss, Mr Donovan.

"Leaving before your time?" He asked, leaning against the doorframe, obviously trying to come across as intimidating.

Newsflash, he was failing.

"It's just 2 minutes," I said, trying to walk past him.

"You know, we never got a chance to catch up from your return," he stated, walking towards me. The seconds in the room felt like hours.

I laughed nervously, trying to ease the tension in the room. My heart rate increased as he stepped closer.

But like always, Soren swooped in to save me.
