After Fitz's announcement, there was absolute silence, until a sob echoed through the deathly quiet healing centre.

"No..."

Keefe fell to the floor as his back shuddered with his sobs. "No... not Sophie... not Sophie... NOT SOPHIE!" He shouted feverishly.

Dex stared at Keefe with dry eyes. He seemed to have gone into shock, and poured out a long stream of tech talk, before muttering, "I can make something to help..."

Then he leaped away.

Biana's reaction was the most surprising. Instead of crumbling to the floor like Fitz had expected, she pulled her dark, thick hair into a neat ponytail, clipping it tight with a jewel-encrusted clip.

"Okay, I'll hail Dad." She said briskly. "And Tiergan- Quintin might be a good one to call over too."

Fitz, swallowing back his tears- saying aloud that Sophie's mind was shattering somehow made it so much more real- said, "I'll get Dad, and you get the other two." He told his sister. "They'll come over as soon as they can, I'm sure."

Biana nodded as they both went to hail the people who were perhaps Sophie's only hope.

Alden glittered into existence in the healing center, his face pale and his eyes panicked.

"Where is she?"

Keefe looked up from where he had been sitting with his head between his knees, on Elwin's orders, taking deep breaths. "Aren't you going to say there's no reason to worry?"

Alden tore his hands through his hair with anxiety. "Fuck that, there's a lot of reasons to worry."

Everyone stared at him with shock. "Okay..." Tam mumbled. "We're doomed."

Alden simply put his fingers on Sophie's temples. A second later, he began shaking. Fitz had to pull him away before he collapsed. "Shi-" Alden cut himself off as he winced, rubbing his temples. "You're right, Fitz. Sophie's mind is shattering- and fast. If I'm right, the sedatives should wear off pretty soon. Actually, I'd say just about-"

"Now." Sophie finished, smiling as she got up.

Linh's eyes grew wide and she drew a large bubble of water to her hands as Tam gathered his shadows, whilst Keefe rose to his feet, holding a goblin throwing star. Fitz took his own throwing stars out of a hidden pocket in his clothes. Biana had not yet returned.

Alden, however, had not seen Sophie hurt Mr Forkle so ruthlessly. He steeped closer. "Sophie, please. We can help you. Whatever the Neverseen has told you, it isn't true. We can help you get your real memories back."

Sophie rolled her eyes as she recoiled, obvious disgust on her face at Alden. "Shut up, stop feeding me your lies! And I'm not called Sophie! My name is Revenge!"

Alden looked shocked at the obvious repulsion in her eyes, and her words.

"Dad..." Fitz warned, in his crisp, sharp accent, stepping up to flank him. "Careful. You don't know what she's gonna do."

A slow, lazy smile spread across Sophie's face. "That's true." She said, tapping her chin mockingly. "I could do... this!" She threw a ball of fire at Tam, who had to drop and scatter his shadows to avoid it. The fire singed his hair. "Or... this!" Sophie said again, gleefully, snapping her finger and making a whip appear in her hand. She lashed out of Keefe, who tried to dodge but ended with three deep, angry red lines on his cheek.

At that moment, Biana reappeared with Tiergan and Quintin by her side.

Biana swore under her breath when she saw Sophie, and immediately vanished. In the meantime, Elwin and Livvy had come out of Elwin's office, both wielding sedative discs.

Suddenly, just as everyone was bracing themselves for another attack from Sophie, she fell to the floor with a shrill, piercing scream. She held her head in her hands, and when she looked back up, her eyes seemed dull, shattered.

Everyone turned pale as she collapsed on the ground in a spasm, holding her head. "Goddamnit." Tiergan muttered, then ran to Sophie. "Sophie... please, we can help you."

Sophie, gritting her teeth weakly, said in a vicious, mad voice, "Never, you fucker. I hate you. I hate you all. I'd rather be dead then let you help me." As another seizure of pain shook her, Sophie pulled a crystal out of her pocket, and leaped away.

"Now that was unexpected." Came Mr Forkle's voice, as he stood up. His injuries were now completely healed, thanks to Elwin and Livvy.

"What do we do?" Keefe asked in a broken voice.

Mr Forkle's face set in grim determination. "Now?" He said. "Now, we get. Her. Back."
