I slowly woke up, my sword at my hip. I lay on a narrow metal cot, the mattress thin and the bars below digging into my back.

I got up, trying in vain to remember the events of the day before. It slowly came back to me. I'd been in the dining hall, when the alarm had gone off... then something heavy had hit me over the back of the head, and I'd passed out. There was a big blank period where I had no idea what I'd done... I just remember feeling a strange sense of dark satisfaction. I dismissed it, was probably nothing.

I put my head into my hands and groaned. It was going to be a long day. I swung my legs out of bed and slipped on some clothes, a formfitting black bodysuit the Neverseen had given me, as well as the uniform Neverseen cloak over the top.

Just as I stepped out into the hallway, my.hair tied in a tight ponytail, there was the sound of high heels clicking rapidly on the concrete floor behind me. I whirled around and my fists clenched. Lady Gisela was rapidly approaching, her face pulled into a fake smile.

"Revenge!" She cried, arms spread out wide. She wrapped her arms around me, and I gagged. She stepped back and said, "I have a mission for you."

I forced my face into an expression of excitement. "What is it?"

Gisela grinned and stroked my cheek, long pale fingers leaving trails of coldness on my skin. My face was starting to hurt from keeping my smile plastered on it. "I want you to... shake up the Black Swan a little. Scare them, send them looking in the wrong place, while we do a bit of... meddling on our end. Your little performance worked last time, maybe that, with Fintan? Make a little 'fire show'?" She laughs at her terrible joke. As if arson is funny. My jaw locks and I fight to keep the smile on my face.

"Yes, of course." I say. "I'll drop by the weapons room, then I'll meet Fintan. Where should I  meet him, and where should we leap to?"

Lady Gisela rolls her eyes, irritated, her attitude changing in the blink of an eye. "I don't have time for this, Revenge. Fintan will meet you in the weapons room, he'll explain the rest." She walked away.

I huffed, annoyed, and flicked her off behind her back. Then I turned and stalked away, towards the weapons room.

Fintan was waiting for me, already all stocked up. He smirked, and gave me a lazy smile. "Grab your stuff and let's go. We're heading to Everglen."  He said. He fingered a gun, which the Neverseen had recently started using, except with more power, and unlimited bullets. They could do serious damage.

I'd already decided that after today, I was dropping the act. It would take too long for the Neverseen to trust me completely, and there was honestly more I could do by fighting against them then hiding amongst them.

Gethen strode in, hands in his pockets, swaggering. Fintan gave him a light kiss. "I'm coming too." Gethen announced. "Gisela wants me to se if I can inconspicuously get information from their minds." Fintan and I nodded, and I turned back to the weapons and tech. I wanted to grab at least one of everything, or as much as I could without being suspicious. I pocketed several devices while the couple weren't looking, then grabbed a gun, and several other weapons.

"Let's go kick some Black Swan ass." I said.

Gethen let out a loud guffaw. "That's the attitude."

With that, we leaped away.

***********************************************************************

The minute I saw Everglen, dread settled into the pit of my stomach.

Something was very, very wrong. Everyone was sitting on the lawn, dead silent, eyes red and staring at the ground.

But I have to keep up the act. I have to, to be able to complete my final mission, my final objective as a member of the Neverseen.

Fintan turns to Gethen. "You know where to go." He says. Gethen nods, then quickly holds his pathfinder up to the light. He disappears, then reappears a few hundred metres away, in a tree (yes, like freaking Robin Hood, I know). He immediately settles down, putting his fingers on his temples.

Before we can do anything else though, Biana glances up from below and sees us on the roof. Her eyes widen immediately, and the others glance up, their gazes weary and their bodies tense.

It's time to start.

*Cue music*

I open my mouth and begin to sing. Fintan throws a device to the floor, creating a temporary, five minute force field around us. It's enough time. It has to be.

Now, I'm out here lookin' like revenge
Feelin' like a ten, the best I've ever been
And, yeah, I know how bad it must hurt to see me like this
But it gets worse (wait a minute)
Now, you're out here lookin' like regret, ain't too proud to beg
Second chance, you'll never get
And, yeah, I know how bad it must hurt to see me like this
But it gets worse (wait a minute)

Now, payback is a bad bitch
And baby, I'm the baddest
You fuckin' with a savage
Can't have this, can't have this (ah)
And it'd be nice of me to take it easy on ya, but nah

I laugh as they desperately try to get to us. It hurts to play them like this, but necessary.

Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Bein' so bad got me feelin' so good
Showin' you up like I knew that I would
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Feelin' inspired 'cause the tables have turned
Yeah, I'm on fire and I know that it burns

I literally light myself on fire as Fintan smirks, and I can't help but laugh at the irony as they stumble back.

Baby, fineness is the way to kill
Tell me how it feel, bet it's such a bitter pill
And yeah I know, you thought you had bigger, better things
Bet right now this stings (wait a minute)
'Cause the grass is greener under me
Bright as Technicolor, I can tell that you can see
And yeah, I know how bad it must hurt to see me like this
But it gets worse (wait a minute)

Now, payback is a bad bitch
And baby, I'm the baddest
You fuckin' with a savage
Can't have this, can't have this (ah)
And it'd be nice of me to take it easy on ya, but nah

Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Bein' so bad got me feelin' so good
Showin' you up like I knew that I would
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Feelin' inspired 'cause the tables have turned
Yeah, I'm on fire and I know that it burns

The force field begins to flicker, and I continue my song, knowing it will at least last until the end. It has to. They are NOT going to stop me.

Talk that talk, baby
Better walk, better walk that walk, baby
If you talk, if you talk that talk, baby
Better walk, better walk that walk, baby
Oh, yeah, talk that talk, baby
Better walk, better walk, that walk, baby
If you talk, if you talk that talk, baby
Better walk, better walk that walk, baby

Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Bein' so bad got me feelin' so good
Showin' you up like I knew that I would
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Baby, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry)
Feelin' inspired 'cause the tables have turned
Yeah, I'm on fire and I know that it burns

I finish, and the force field is about to go out. I turn towards Fintan, and smile evilly as he tries to take my hand. I tut disapprovingly. "Not gonna happen, big guy." I say, then, in one, clean motion, I unsheathe my sword and stab it through his chest. The tip of the sword comes out on the other side, and my friends' eyes widen in horror as they collectively step back.

I can't help but enjoy the pain in his eyes as I watch the light go out in them. Just as he fades away for good, I lean down and whisper in his ear, a malicious smile gracing my face.

"Revenge is sweet, isn't it?"
