"There she is! Our future pop star!" Mum said as I came into view. Everyone was already downstairs having breakfast and talking about the day ahead. When Mum announced my presence, conversations ceased and they all looked at me.

"Woo!" cheered Jeremiah.

"Guys stop," I said as Mum came to hug me.

"Are you excited, Abby?" Laurel asked as I stood between her and Susannah.

I nodded, "yeah, but I'm also really nervous."

"Why? You do cheerleading performances where you've sang in front of people before," questioned Jeremiah from the dinner table next to Belly.

"I know, but this time feels different," I shrugged.

"Are you nervous about not raising enough money for your charity, sweetheart?" Susannah wondered concerned.

"No, I'm actually excited for that part."

"What charity are you representing?"

"Cancer Research UK," I said. I made eye contact with Conrad who had a sad look in his eyes, "I, uh, I used to do volunteer work and raise money for them back in England, and they have a few headquarters here in America, so it seemed fitting."

Everyone smiled, but it was a sad smile. Three years ago, Susannah had cancer, but she's better now. I'm not trying to bring up those fears again, but since it was Susannah who encouraged me to be a debutante, I wanted to honour her in some way.

She smiled and gave me a side hug rubbing my arm, "Oh sweetheart, that's wonderful. You're going to  do so well."

"I just hope I don't fall off the stage."

"You'll do great, Abby," Conrad said keeping his eyes on me, "you've got nothing to worry about."

"Thanks, Con," I smiled. I looked at Laurel and leant in closer inspecting her face, "are you wearing makeup?"

"Okay!" she sighed making everyone laugh. Before I arrived, they were teasing her about it, "don't you have a rehearsal to get to?"

"Oh," Mum said with a gasp, "she's right. We've got to go. Come on."
