Chapter 53

Valentina

After I arrived at Jason's, I went to my room and as I finished re-organizing and putting the kids to bed, I heard a knock on the door. "It's unlocked."

The door opened and I saw Danny. "Oh my god, hi."

"Hey.""

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah."

"Val..."

"I guess."

"What's going on?"

"Daddy!"

"Hi, buddy." Maverick hugged Danny and Callie sat on his lap. "I missed you guys."

"I missed you too!"

"Well, they were sleeping."

Danny smirked. "I missed you guys."

"Me too."

"So, how was California? While it lasted anyways."

"It was alright, but it just didn't feel right. I felt that I was better off coming back home."

"Well, I am glad that you made that decision."

"Me too."

"It's getting late, I'm going to try to put the kids to bed again."

"Of course."

After I made sure that Maverick and Callie were asleep, I went back to my bedroom  and sat on the bed next to Danny. "Val, I know things aren't okay."

"I'm trying to be okay, I guess."

Danny wrapped his arm around me and kissed my forehead. "What's going on?"

"I've been taking antidepressants."

"What?"

"Ever since I found out about the miscarriage, I've been feeling really down and..."

"You had a miscarriage?"

"Yeah."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I had no reason to."

"Well, I can promise you one thing, Valentina."

I looked at him as he wiped the tears off of my face with his sleeve. "What would that be?"

"I am never leaving you again."

"Only time can prove that."

"I know. William says I won't ever change, but I am the father of your children."

"Technically only Maverick, but I get what you mean."

"I refuse to leave you again, Valentina. I love you."

"I'll need you to prove that to me."

"I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately. I want to permanently be a part of your life, Valentina."

"But I've heard that countless times and look what happened."

"I know, but Katy's not you. I mean, I guess things were good at the time and..." He shook his head. "Anyways, I want to be a part of your life, Val. I don't want to leave my family again."

"Well, only time will tell."

"I want you to give me one last chance. But you can take as long as you need to decide."

I nodded. "I need a couple of months."

"I will give you as much time as you need."

"Thank you."

"I know it will take a long time to gain your trust, but I want to prove to you that I am not going anywhere. I was stupid to leave you and I don't want to put you through that ever again."

"I just hope you're right. Because I love you, and I can't get hurt again."

"I know."

"But I do have one question."

"Sure."

"Although you are saying that you will change, do you have Katy's number blocked?"

"Of course I did."

I knew that it was wrong giving Danny a second chance but with everything going on, I needed him and so did my children.
