Chapter 14

Danny

When I got home at 7, I was beyond shocked to see Juan's Jeep in the driveway. I entered the house and saw Natalia sitting on the couch next to him and Valentina sat across from them, with some guy's arm around her shoulders. "Who are you?"

"I'm Nico. Valentina's boyfriend."

"What are they doing here?"

Natalia smiled. "Figured I would try to mend things back up with my sister and I found out about her pregnancy! How exciting!"

"She..."

"Thanks, we're really excited."

It truly pissed me off, seeing Valentina put on some act when she knows the real truth. I knew we needed to keep it a secret, but I didn't think that she would pretend like she was into some other guy.

I could still sense the tension between Natalia and Valentina, but they both have one thing in common: they are good at faking emotions when it is necessary.

Later that night: "I seriously can't believe she's pregnant."

"Natalia, don't you think that you could maybe be a little nicer?"

"She's lucky!"

"Why do you say that?"

"Because you know that I have wanted to try and have a kid, but you don't want one!"

"Maybe respect the fact that I don't want one." Although it was mostly true, Valentina will be having my kid in 9 months which really scared the hell out of me.

"Danny, we've been married for almost three years! It's not fair! I want to have a baby with you!"

"Well, life isn't fair. If you aren't happy, then go."

Natalia shook her head. "Baby, I didn't mean it that way. I just really want to have a baby with you."

"And I am not ready for it."

"That's because you work all the time. Maybe take some time off."

"Can't. I have to make money to support you, remember?"

Natalia scowled. "You're an asshole! How could you say that to me?"

"Because it is the truth. Sometimes, I feel like you're just using me."

"No, I am not. I love you!"

"Don't waste my time, Natalia. I will not have a problem replacing you."

"But you promised that you would never choose anyone else."

"Well, you get on my nerves sometimes and it really is bullshit."

Natalia sighed. "I am sorry you feel that way, but it's all I am asking for, Danny. I don't think it's that much to ask for, do you?"

"Having a kid is a huge deal. I am not interested, can we stop talking about this now?"

"Danny, please?"

"I said no. Okay? Respect me for once."

I had to truly face it. I really wanted nothing to do with having a kid, but I had to man the hell up. I will be a father in a few months, and I had to do everything I could to get my shit together. For Valentina.
