Danny

After I arrived at work, I went to the conference room and made a copy of the divorce papers I had in my briefcase, her favorite coffee from Starbucks in my other hand and placed the small vase of roses on her desk with a note tucked in the envelope next to the vase.

The only thing I could hope for was that she would get the final hint of how badly I wanted her.

Around 8, people started to arrive, and I saw her enter with Micah.

By the look on her face the moment she looked at her desk showed either confusion or irritation, I couldn't fully tell.

Valentina

"I can't believe he did all of this for you."

"Yeah."

"Umm hello, this really shows that he cares about you, Val."

"Yeah, maybe."

"Look, I know what he has put you through, but why not give him a chance?"

"What?"

"Give him a chance to prove himself that he truly cares."

"I just don't know, Micah. What if he hurts me? It would be so selfish of me, and it would ruin the damaged relationship I already have with Natalia."

"Valentina, may I have a word with you for a moment?"

"Yeah."

I stood up and followed Danny to his office, shutting the door behind me.

"Why did you get me coffee and flowers?"

"I just appreciate you, Val and I wanted to show you that."

"Well, I appreciate it, but it wasn't necessary."

"I appreciate what you have done for me, I honestly don't think that anyone else could do your job."

"I try to work hard."

Danny nodded. "And I wanted to thank you."

"I try to aim for perfection. I wouldn't want to let you or William down, especially with how successful you are."

"Go to dinner with me later, and I will show you."

"Show me what?"

"How much I appreciate you."

"But..."

"Actually, I am not giving you a choice."

"You're so bossy."

He chuckled. "I know."

"What about Maverick?"

"You can bring him if you want."

"Of course, I do, he is my son."

"Our son."

"Where do you want me to meet you?"

"Tanino's."

"The Italian restaurant?"

"Yes."

"Alright, fine. But what about Natalia?"

"She's at her mother's for a few days."

"She went back to Mexico City?"

Danny nodded. "She will be gone until Tuesday."

"I wonder why."

"Beats me. But I get a break from her. It's nice to have the house to myself."

"I'm sure."

"So, does 6 work?"

"Yeah, sure."

He smirked and kissed me. "Thank you, Val. Have a good rest of your day, love."

"What?"

"Nothing."

"Yeah, sure."

He chuckled. "Have a good day."

"You too." I dreaded going to dinner with Danny, but I didn't have a choice.
