Valentina

Micah could tell something was wrong the moment I got to work. "Hey, are you okay?"

"To be honest, I don't know. I wish I could say yes."

"How did he respond?"

"He said he was okay with..."

"Valentina?" I looked up and saw Danny staring at me. "Can I speak to you for a moment?"

"Why?"

"Come into my office."

Micah raised her eyebrows once Danny was out of hearing range. "What the hell could he want?"

"I have no idea."

I stood up and took a deep breath before entering Danny's office. "Shut the door, Valentina."

Nodding, I shut the door and stood with my arms crossed. "What do you want?"

"Val, I miss you."

"Okay? And that should be my problem, why?"

"I hate knowing that you have someone else."

I laughed. "You've been seeing Katy for two Goddamn years, and you're bothered about me seeing someone? How the hell do you think I felt when I found out? And you're engaged now?"

"I'm sorry. I wish I could take everything back."

"Well, you can't."

He approached me and slid his thumb across my lip. I swatted his hand away and scowled. "Don't touch me."

"Val..."

"No."

Shaking his head, he leaned in and kissed me. "Val, please."

Suddenly, Danny's door opened, and Katy stood there glaring at me. "What the fuck are you doing in here?"

"Danny told me to come in."

She scowled. "Why should I believe that?"

"It's true, Katy."

She looked at Danny and raised her eyebrows. "Well, we have to meet the seamstress for your suit."

I could tell Katy was trying to brag by the way she looked at me with a small smirk. "Nice talk, Danny."

Katy shut the door once I left, and I went back to my desk. "God, she's a bitch."

"What did she do now?"

"Trying to brag that they're getting married."

Micah laughed. "Surprise, surprise."

By 5, I got a phone call from Danny. "Val, I need to see you. Come to my house after you get out of work."

"Pardon?"

"You heard me."

"Do you think Katy would really allow that?"

"She won't be at the house."

"No."

"Val, please... it's important."

"You know what, sure. Just for shits and giggles, I will be looking forward to hearing what you'll have to say."

Danny

I was beyond shocked the moment Valentina entered my house. "I didn't think you would show up."

"What do you have to say that's so important? I don't have a whole lot of free time for you anymore."

"Val, I want to apologize for..."

"Fucking my best friend and getting married to her in a few months? It's pretty hard to forgive you, Danny."

"Baby, please..."

"No."

"I see you have a boyfriend now."

"Yes, I do."

"Who is it?"

"None of your business."

"You wouldn't give me another chance?"

Valentina laughed. "Another chance? Are you kidding me? Why would I EVER give you another chance?"

"Because everyone deserves a second chance, don't you think?"

"If only it could be that easy for you, Danny. You broke my heart by fucking Katy and dating her behind my back. No guy has ever hurt me like you did."

"Baby..."

"No. Do not call me that."

"Val... I love you."

"Yeah, you sure act it."

"You look good with blond hair by the way."

She rolled her eyes. "Is that all you have to say? I have other things that I can do rather than being here."

"I want to fix things, Valentina."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because you're getting married to someone else, let alone my ex best friend! Yet you still have the audacity to ask."

"Val..."

"No, Danny. We're done here." She opened the door and scowled. "And one more thing, Tom treats me better than you ever did."

After she left, I soon realized that the Tom she mentioned was Katy's Tom. I could hardly believe it but at the same time, it was no surprise.

Valentina

After I got home, I noticed Tom's truck in the driveway. I entered the house and saw him sitting at the kitchen table with Juan, drinking beer. "What's going on?"

"Oh, Tom and I were just talking."

"About?"

Tom smiled and looked at Juan. "Do you want to tell her?"

"Tell me what?"

"Well, we wanted to plan a trip to go to Mexico."

"For what?"

"Just to get away from reality for a bit. I figured I would invite Micah too."

"That's not necessary to do that."

"Well, it's already done. We leave in three weeks."

"Tom, are you serious?"

"Yes. Look at it as an early birthday present."

"I can't believe you."

He smiled and kissed me. "Well, surprise."

I could hardly believe it, but it definitely was something Danny would never do for me.
