Chapter 12

Valentina

I woke up the next morning and met Ben at Bob Evans. "Hey."

"Hi."

"How are you?"

"I'm good."

"Do you think that we could start over?"

"I'm not looking to have any relationship right now."

"That's okay. We can take as much time as you would like, Valentina."

"I just have some things going on right now and it's really stressing me out."

"Like what?"

"I just found out that I am pregnant."

"Oh, you are?"

"Yeah."

"Oh."

"It's just been really stressing me out."

"Why's that?"

"Because I know that the father wants nothing to do with me or our kid."

"Well, that's his loss. I am here for you now."

"You mentally and emotionally broke me, Ben."

"I know and I hate myself for it."

"As you should."

"I allowed my drunken nights to interfere with our relationship and it changed my behavior, especially after things became physical."

"We could have made the relationship work."

"I know and again, I am sorry for the past. The three years that we spent together truly changed my life, but I messed it up and didn't acknowledge it until it was too late."

"I did nothing to deserve the things you've done to me."

"I want to prove that I've changed, Vanessa. I want us back."

I sensed that Ben seemed sincere with his apology, but I still had to have Danny be a part of this, considering I am having his child but there was one thing I had to face: breaking the news to my brother.

Knowing I had to do it sooner than later, I left Bob Evans and went to Jason's house, but thankfully only Jess's car was in the driveway.

"Hey, what's up?"

"I have some unexpected news."

"Is it bad?"

"I don't know."

"What's going on?"

"I was late for two weeks and I took a test yesterday."

Jess raised her eyebrows. "A pregnancy test?"

"Yeah."

"And?"

"I tested positive."

"Oh my god, no way! How exciting!"

"I don't find it exciting right now."

"Who's the father?"

"Unexpected things have happened lately, Danny is the father."

"WHAT? Danny as in your boss?"

"Yeah."

" Are you serious? What if Natalia finds out?"

"I'm hoping that she doesn't."

"Did you tell Danny?"

"Yeah."

"What'd he say?"

"He didn't take the news well. Please promise that you won't tell Jason."

"You're going to have to do that."

"Do what?"

"I didn't want to tell you this, but I have no choice."

"What are you talking about?"

"'m pregnant."

"You're pregnant?"

"Yeah."

"When did you find this out?"

"Yesterday."

"You're only 19 years old, Val."

"Please don't remind me."

"Who's the father?"

"I really need you to stay calm with me, okay?"

He raised his eyebrows. "Why would I be angry?"

"Because I am having Danny's kid."

"WHAT? Are you serious?"

"I know."

"What the hell were you thinking? What will Natalia say when she finds out?"

"She won't."

"Let alone you work for Danny, what the hell?"

"I am aware."

"Well, you're old enough to figure things out and we all make our own decisions. I just hope this does not bite you in the ass, Val."

"Please don't report him or something, okay?"

"I have every reason to, but I know you wouldn't want to lose your job so I suppose I will keep my mouth shut."

"Thank you, Jason. I know it was wrong, but I can't take it back."

I was beyond relieved knowing he didn't react the way I thought he would, but I absolutely dreaded going to work tomorrow.
