Chapter 34

Valentina

Tom had shown up a few minutes later, a smile on his face. "Thanks for seeing me tonight."

"Sure, so what did you want to tell me?"

"I have no issues with you having kids, because I have a six-year-old daughter."

"Is Katy the mother?"

"Hell no, I would never want kids with her. I would love to spend more time with her, but Katy always seems to interfere with that."

"How so?"

"My ex-wife and I have 50/50 custody of Jasmine, and although I usually get her for four days a week, Katy prevents that from happening."

"That's not right."

"Tell me about it, I was kind of hurt originally, but I honestly am relieved that I won't have to put up with her anymore."

"By the sounds of things, I would feel the same way."

"I have you now, things will be much better."

"Who said anything about us becoming a thing?"

"Is that not something you would want?"

"I have to take things one day at a time."

"Well, at least give me the opportunity of spending more time with you."

"That's fine, I just really can't promise anything."

"We can take things as slow as you would like."

"I appreciate it."

"Of course. Would you like for me to stay the night?"

"Really?"

"Yes, I would love nothing more."

"Sure."

"I want you to meet Jasmine eventually."

"I am sure that I will."

"I hope that we will advance our relationship."

"We will have to see."

I had no interest in terms of getting into another relationship this soon considering the current situation, and although Ben was still a part of my life, it was solely for Callie, but I may change my mind at some point and give Tom a chance to change things for not only myself, but for my children as well.

I woke up around 7 and got dressed, leaving the house quietly to meet Natalia at the diner downtown and as always, she was there before me. "Val!"

"Hey."

"You look good."

Raising my eyebrows, I looked down at my leggings, sweatshirt and Converse. "Umm thank you?"

"Sit, please. I ordered you a latte."

"Sounds good to me."

"So, what's going on?"

"Well, first off, I found out about Danny's affair with Katy and after I told her husband about it, we hooked up, and I kind of feel like I am attracted to him."

"Does he know that?"

"No."

"Maybe you should tell him."

I shook my head. "I don't know."

"What are you going to do about Danny?"

"I don't know, I guess that will be handled eventually."

"I'm here for you regardless, Val. I know I was an asshole for many years but I want to mend things back together if that's alright."

"Of course it is."

"Great, thank you so much."

"So, tell me about your date."

Natalia smiled. "You'll like him a lot, he's successful, hard working and a really nice guy."

"What's his name?"

"William."

"William who?"

"Burnside."

"No way."

Natalia raised her eyebrows. "Do you know him?"

"He's Danny's business partner."

"Oh, no way."

"Yeah, and Jess's brother."

"Wow, that's crazy."

"Well, William seems like a nice guy, I'm happy for you."

"Thank you so much."
