The group is ascending the great mountains. The path is difficult and dangerous. Nex climbs the rocks with incredible speed while the others are slower.
Nex: it is going to take days with you lot
Jana: well we are not all related to death so give us a break
Nex(enjoying the teasing): fine, just hurry up, I am bored
Jana: well calm your ADHD ass down by doing something else.
Nex(sounding like a bored child): like what?
Jana: make us a camp higher up and the do some writing
Nex: ok I will
Nex starts setting the camp as the others ascend.
Wren (to jana): how old do you reckon nex is?
Jana: sometimes billions of years old but other times,a little 2 year old
Wren(giggling): true, I do not think we can age them based on human time. Are you ever scared of them?
Jana: no, I should be, we all should be. They are the child of death, a creation of nightmares, yet they are just so... sweet
Maja: exactly
Carter:they are wise even beyond my years. They are more powerful then anything imaginable and further beyond. The stories say they are stronger then their father
Jana: why is death male anyway?
Carter: because you humans say so. Death does not fit in your ideas of gender.
Wren: well we are not like that, we are accepting of anything
Carter: yes I see that, you support nex and they certainly do not fit in any human idea. I doubt they even know. They were raised on by a dragon
Wren: which dragon?
Carter: the first. Nex created the rest of the dragon race from the imagine of the first, the great Ruby. She is the mother of dragons
Jana: how would that work?
Carter: well the dragon stories say that nex took some large stones and created them as eggs. Unfortunately Ruby died many many millions of years ago. I do not even think Ruby lived a short time, they lived for hundreds of years.
Nex(shouting): she lived for millions. She was younger then me by billions of years. I was born at the start of everything. Also, hurry up you lot
Carter: we are nearly there
Nex: Oh Carter, she never died, not truly anyway. You see the North star?
Carter: yes
Nex: well there is Ruby, she lived so long she became a living star, I visit her from time to time. She is my parent as well as death and my mother.
Carter: was your mother human?
Nex: No, she was exactly as powerful as my father
Carter: why is he your father and she your mother?
Nex: easier for your mortal minds, just describing my birth would burn your minds to cinders.
The group reaches nex. The settle into camp and eat.
Nex: the city is not too far, we can reach it tomorrow. You all rest, I have food to hunt
Jana: but you eat already
Nex: my power requires a lot of eating. I get most power from draining from other sources but food is still needed. A flock of birds should do for now
The group sleeps as nex begins their hunt.
