Vivian POV

The second we arrived at that house, my nerves were shot. I felt like I was just floating around, not really alive. Once the big, scary men said they would bring the children downstairs, reality smashed into me.

No one was taking these kids.

Niko came out and let them stay with me, and I think my heart swelled a little more for him. I apologized for causing a scene, knowing it made him look weak. He had to understand that I won't let these children be hurt though. I don't care what fucked up shit these families got into as long as it didn't involve children.

When Niko came for me, I didn't want to leave them alone, but I also didn't want to anger him. He needed me and I needed to be there for him. The second he slammed my body against the wall I knew exactly how he needed me. This man was insatiable, but I wasn't complaining.

Then he demanded me in his bed tonight. I didn't even know where we were at that moment and agreed. I wanted to be needed by him and I was tired of fighting it.

After cleaning ourselves up from our little rump against the door I headed back to the kids. Michael was guarded in a tension I knew was not normal for a twelve-year-old. Amy was completely full of worry. I had to calm them down. I just wish I knew how.

"Hey guys, why don't we see if we can explore a little here? Maybe there is a garden outside." I really didn't know what to do or say.

Amy slowly shook her head ok. "If you think it's safe. I just want to stay by you or Mr. Paul." She looked up innocently at him and I saw his stoic bodyguard's glare falter. The little girl was pulling at his heartstrings too.

"What do you say, Paul? Can we explore a bit before dinner?"

He sighed then responded. "Fine! But no more trouble. Anyone steps out of line let me handle it. Ok?" He gave me a serious look.

"Yes sir." I saluted to him and he rolled his eyes at me. What? I didn't grow up Mafia and obviously had no self-discipline.

We walked around the house and outside for an hour not finding anything special. I wasn't sure what we were looking for other than a distraction anyways. The staff were all very nice and that was relieving to know they were treated fairly here. I headed upstairs to clean us all up and get dressed for dinner. I had no idea what the protocol was and just let Marie work her magic.

She gave me a light blue dress that was classy. Amy was in a dark blue dress and Michael a suit with a blue shirt. I looked between us and smiled a little too happily at how we looked like a family.

I always wanted kids but never really thought about it. I liked this role of their protector. I knew that being a mother could never happen though. How could I bring a child into this world to live a life as brutal as these two had? I couldn't even marry Niko.

Whoa! If I'm having kids, he would not be the father. What is wrong with me?

I shook my head as we walked down the hall. Paul was guiding us but stopped at a small group of men just outside the dining room doors. Roberto was telling stories about some old times they all had, specifically with Tommy.

My heart squeezed some hearing his name. I hadn't thought much about Tommy lately. My life had become unrecognizable and Niko had been consuming my thoughts. I stole a look at his rigid body and cold eyes staring daggers at Roberto. He was not enjoying this walk down memory lane. My heart clenched tighter seeing the unbridled pain in his body.

As I approached, Niko's eyes instantly scanned my body. I watched his shoulder relax some and that sly smirk slightly crept onto his face. I dare say he was enjoying the view. I gave him a small smile unsure what to do in this moment. I wanted to wrap my arms around him but was that appropriate? If my presence alone lighted his mood then he should want my touch even more.
