September 1st
Life had been good to Luz Clawthorne-Whispers these last 10 months. Sure, she was in a horrible car accident that left her with a bunch of broken bones, but she got to take a whole month off of school to recover. Her legs may have taken longer to heal, but that just left more time for video games.
Now, everything just seemed perfect. She was elected Captain of Bonesborough High's Gaming Team, she'd gotten her driver's license in April, and she even has a sort-of girlfriend now.
Boscha Herman, Bonesborough High Dance Captain. She met Luz about 4 months ago. And sure, she never actually asked Luz to be her girlfriend, but she DID tell everyone they were dating. That counts, right?
"I dunno..." Luz thinks aloud. "I mean, my life is great. My physical scars are healed, but it feels like there's a mental scar." she says to Boscha, who scrolls away on her phone across the lunch table. "Er, not a scar, per se... More like a hole. Like... something's missing. But I can't for the life of me figure out what. You know?" She looks at the pink-haired girl sitting across from her. With a heavy sigh, Boscha sets down her phone and shrugs. "Honestly, Hun? I wasn't listening. And even if I was, why are you so worried about the past? If you ask me, the reason you can't remember is because whatever it is isn't worth remembering."
Luz feels a twinge in her heart. 'Not worth remembering?' she thinks to herself. 'If it wasn't worth remembering, it wouldn't spend 10 months bothering me!' she watches Boscha go back to her phone and sighs internally. 'I wish I could ask Willow and Gus...' she turns her head to the left, spotting her old friends a few tables away, with someone she didn't recognize. For a moment she stares at the mystery person, with their black hoodie, brown hair, and rectangular glasses. If Luz was being completely honest, this person was interesting. Their hair was long, and quite messy (but in a cute way). And when Gus said something with his outrageous hand gestures, she watches them laugh. Luz had originally looked over to sneak a glimpse of Willow and Gus, but instead became captivated by someone she wishes she knew.
"Luz!"
"Huh?" Luz snaps back to reality, turning back to Boscha. "Sorry, I zoned out for a second." she apologizes. Boscha scoffs. "Wow. Okay, I get it. So I just don't mean anything to you, huh?"
Luz sighs. This was extremely common for Boscha. "That's not fair. You know I have ADHD. I can't focus on one thing for very long."
"Yet you have no problem focusing on another girl for five whole minutes? Yeah, 'cause I totally believe that." Boscha says sarcastically, grabbing her mesh backpack from the floor. Luz blinks.
'Was I really staring for that long...? Oh no! Did that girl notice? I hope I didn't creep her out!'
"Luz!"
"Huh?"
Brrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!
Luz looks up at the ceiling, hearing the bell ring for class. She then grabs her backpack and puts her lunchbag in it before leaving for class. Boscha follows her, an aura of annoyance surrounding her. "We'll talk about this later." she tells Luz. "No, you'll talk about it later and I'll agree because otherwise you'll tell everyone some lie you made up."
Before Boscha can reply, Luz rushes through the crowd of students to her next class. Throughout the rest of the day, Luz receives many instagram messages from Boscha, which she ignores. It wasn't until the final class period that Boscha had seemed to calm down from the spamming.
Thankfully, Luz's last class is Art. A class which she had always found relaxing, but couldn't remember why. Something about creating something to represent her innermost emotions and desires felt cathartic for her. So when she walked into the Art room and took a seat at her table, she felt nothing but relief. That is, until the teacher made her announcement.
