October 6th
Luz walks through the door after being picked up early from school, and quickly runs to her room to get ready for her friends' arrival. She makes her bed quickly, and picks up any and all dirty clothes from the floor. Should she have had this done already? Absolutely. But the dust on the ceiling proved to be a lot more interesting than cleaning.
Luz realized that she doesn't actually have a laundry basket. So, in a last ditch effort, she opens her closet and throws the dirty clothes onto the floor before shutting it and looking around her room. She realizes that her room is mostly clean, except for her desk. She looks at the nearly overflowing trash can next to the desk. After a moment's hesitation, she goes into the kitchen for a trash bag. She returns and empties her trash can into the bag and cleans up the empty chip bags and candy wrappers on her desk. Once all the trash was cleaned, she put the very large trash bag into her tiny trash can, before picking it up and setting it into the corner behind the door. Luz looks around her mostly clean room. She checks the time, realizing it'll be another hour before school lets out. So, she thinks of things to do to pass the time when her eyes land on the otter onesie she bought the day before. So she decides to put it on. Pulling the hood over her head, she looks in the mirror and smiles.
With half an hour left, Luz walks into the living room. Raine gasps when they see her, pulling her into a tight hug. "Awww! You look adorable!" they squeal. Luz quickly hugs them back. "Awh, Eda! Come look at our daughter!" Raine yells for their wife. Eda walks into the room, leaning against the wall. "Huh. That onesie looks exactly like the one we put her in when we brought her home."
Raine gasps, pulling away and looking carefully at Luz. They whimper, their eyes filling with tears. "Oh! My baby!" They pull Luz into another hug. Eda scoffs. "Raine, she's not a baby anymore." she says. Raine cries. "I know!"
Luz pats Raine's back. "It's okay, Raine. I may not be little anymore, but I'm still your baby." she says. Raine whimpers, sniffling softly. "I'm gonna go get ingredients for dinner." They start to walk toward the door. Eda follows them. "Raine, we got everything yesterday."
"We forgot the seasoning Luz likes!"
Eda sighs. "Babe, you can't drive like this."
"Yes I can!"
Eda rolls her eyes. "Kid, I guess we're heading out. Be careful. Don't die. And if we're not back by the time your friends get here, it's because Raine had a breakdown at the store."
Luz snickers, watching her parents walk out the door to their vehicle. "Be careful! Drive safe!" she tells them.
"We will. Don't open the door for strangers." Eda says as she and Raine get into the car. Luz watches them drive off before heading back inside, going straight for the hall closet where they kept the board games. Luz looks at the plethora of games before grabbing her favorites and taking them to her bedroom. After setting the last box down on the bed, she hears a knock on the front door. She instantly runs and was about to open the door, but decides to check the peephole. When she sees her two best friends, she opens the door. "Hey guys!"
"SLEEPOVER!" Gus yells, running into the house. Willow sighs. "Ignore him. He's just excited." She says, as Luz moves to let her in. "Happy Birthday, Bestie." she exclaims, pulling Luz into a hug. Luz quickly hugs her back, smiling. "Thanks Willow. Hey, have you heard from Amity today? She sent me a 'happy birthday' text but I didn't get to see her at school."
Willow tilts her head as Luz shuts the front door. "She's not here yet? She got pulled out of school not long after you. I thought she would've been here by now."
Luz hums slightly, looking at the floor as she pats her phone in her pocket. "Maybe she just needed to make a stop on the way. I'm sure she'll be here soon." Willow says while patting Luz's shoulder. Luz nods. "Yeah. You're right."
