Foreward

Alright. Here is my attempt at writing a forward to a passion project I have been working on for the past two years of my life, and one that has led me to doing things I never knew I could possibly do and truly bringing me on a journey of discovery - for myself, and the characters within this project.

This script was originally never intended to be seen by anyone outside of me and a friend who has been a huge help with the brainstorming and writing process. But as time went on, we both realized that the only way something big could happen with this project is tossing it out into the world in some way and leaving it to fend for itself.

So here we are.

I'm struggling to string together words of the English language in just a little foreward, and you're here reading it.

To say that this project has become a big part of my life would be a completely inadequate understatement. I genuinely don't know what I would be doing half the time without it here, and if I would have ever come so far with my favorite little Italian trio had I not been kept awake one Wednesday night by the very first little ideas that would launch an entire project.

Writing this has been an entire emotional rollercoaster. I've laughed hysterically at the single crack of a tiny joke, but I've also lost some tears every now and then. There's points when I've doubted if what I'm writing is really the best thing I could be doing with my time; heck, if it's the right way to portray Luca, Alberto, and Giulia... but I haven't let that stop me from doing what, after so long, feels right. I would be lying if I said I haven't discovered so much about these three through writing them just based on what was actually left to us in the first movie and continuing to develop them.

The script itself has gone through multiple iterations and modifications, and while a... somewhat general premise has stayed the same, I've added in a lot more characters and plot pieces that bring more of what people have been hoping for in a sequel.

So, if you couldn't tell from the synopsis... this script has a heavy focus on Giulia's family, which is one thing I've definitely noticed has been wanted. (Although don't worry, the boys' families aren't going anywhere.) It's been a lot of fun playing around with the dynamics and the ancestry, and while it's taken a bit of math, I think I've narrowed it down pretty well.

Overall, the character designs transfer the same from the first movie, and everyone looks and is wearing what they did in the previous film. This is so that the focus of the sequel can be more on one big change than several smaller ones, although outfit swaps throughout the script are still up in the air for a few scenes (for example, I'm still debating if Luca and Giulia are in uniform on the train ride home).

That being said, the one big change is definitely a pretty heavy one. Which is why I present, rendered in my own style, Giulia's sea monster design.

I've definitely put the design through a couple changes throughout the course of writing the sequel, but the overall concept of it hasn't changed much

I've definitely put the design through a couple changes throughout the course of writing the sequel, but the overall concept of it hasn't changed much. I've taken as many of the general principles of sea monster design and applied them to the best of my abilities.

I'll probably wind up explaining the design in an afterword so I can finish all the prior details here to keep the foreword as simple as I can.

So why share this script, having no idea what will happen to it, when I'm already one of the most self-conscious people on the planet? Because that's what writers who aren't afraid to share their stories do. As I mentioned earlier, I've had my fair share of doubts writing this, but I've always let the bigger, better voice inside my head win and push for something that I'm passionate about.

And that's the real beauty of writing. A few years ago, I might have been more susceptible to believing anything that was said about my Italian kids, but as I've spent more and more time with them, I've started to build up my own view of them... and who's to say that view isn't something amazing?

Luca, Alberto, and Giulia have been a huge part of my life practically ever since I first knew that they existed, and while they're completely fictional characters, they've gotten me through some rough patches in my life and to me, it's only right that I give them something back. I may be years older than them and have seen and done more than they have, but that doesn't mean I can't consider them as something special.

While I can't promise that updating this script will be consistent, considering as I'm also tackling multiple other writing and art projects at the same time, some of them not by myself, I'll do my best to keep progress as steady as possible. (Unless you've come from the far future when this is all completed.)

As a bonus for sticking around through the entire script, once I've finished writing and uploading everything, I'll include an afterword full of music that's helped me to write or gives the ambience of different scenes in the sequel, drawings or sketches me or a friend have made, potentially some old, scrapped, or blooper pieces of dialogue or script, and a whole lot more.

My hand is getting tired and my brain cells for writing this are running short. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to come see a part of my little corner of chaos.

A presto (...ish), ciao, and bienvenuti to the world of Luca 2.
