(A bunch of little cutscenes showing the kids' day.)
(The kids help Mr. Marcovaldo haul in the fish nets. He's impressed and proud with their work, then notices that Giulia is wearing gloves, and he gives her a confused look, to which she sheepishly shrugs.)
(Alberto goes back to Giulia's bedroom and hangs up the family tree on the wall, and, holding a pencil, draws several more branches of past Marcovaldo relatives, adding their faces and names and trying to make some connection.)
(Luca goes back to the church office and returns the files, asking if there's any more, to which Padre shakes his head and leaves him disappointed.)
(Giulia helps her dad make lunch in the kitchen, and is waiting for a pot to boil. When it does start to boil and steam comes up from it, she quickly backs up and nearly trips, and when her dad looks over at her, she points to Machiavelli for an excuse.)
(As Luca's passing by the beach to go back to the house, he looks out at the sea and tilts his head, clearly having a thought.)
(Meanwhile, back in Giulia's room, Alberto is practically banging his head against the wall, unable to figure out what the sea monster connection is in the family tree.)
(The kids and Mr. Marcovaldo eat lunch together, and the boys both look at Giulia with concern, to which she shrugs and busies herself with her pasta.)
(Giulia passes by the bathroom and stops to check and adjust her hat in the mirror, only to momentarily see her reflection turn sea monster before she blinks and it's gone, leaving her anxious for a moment.)
(Alberto, still trying to figure out the family tree, holds Machiavelli up to it as if he's trying to get his opinion on it.)
(Luca is out reading in the treehouse when Giulia climbs up the tree-steps to sit beside him and read as well. He gives her a questioning look, to which she just smiles, which seems to reassure him. But when he turns back to reading, she looks down nervously at her hands.)
(Mr. Marcovaldo comes into Giulia's room to see Alberto highlighting as much of the family tree as he can with different colors, with Machiavelli watching boredly from the windowsill. Alberto quickly covers up his work with a sheepish shrug so that he doesn't see it.)
(Luca sits underwater near the Portorosso shore, thinking. He looks out in the direction of the underwater town and hesitates, then nods and swims back up to shore.)
(The kids eat supper with Mr. Marcovaldo, during which Giulia leaves her water glass entirely untouched, which makes Alberto suspicious, but Luca looks at him and shakes his head, seeming to be convinced that she's fine.)
(At last, the music slows down. It's the middle of the night and in bed, Giulia is tossing and turning in bed, clearly having a bad dream. It cuts to her actual nightmare.)
(She's walking out from her front yard, when she has to duck and jump to avoid water balloons being tossed between a group of kids. She hurries out of the way as fast as possible, only to immediately be offered fish from someone. She backs up, bumping into someone holding a watering can and watering a flower box, causing some of the water to spill near her, and she quickly avoids it.)
(Unfortunately, someone has been hosing down the side of their house, and as she accidentally bumps into them, the water in the hose splashes her hand and changes it to sea monster.)
Hose Person: (Shocked) She's a sea monster!
Giulia: Wait- No- (Backing up)
(More and more phrases that indicate her being a sea monster start coming up from the townspeople, sending her into full sound sensory overload. She tries to plug her ears to block the various levels of noise out, only for them to shift into fins, leaving her efforts useless.)
(Now absolutely panicking, she blindly backs up and stumbles into the fountain, going full sea monster form. Clouds instantly move in and bring rain.)
Giulia: (Desperate) N-no- Turn back-... You're supposed to be human-
(The townspeople start to surround the fountain, some angry and some fearful. It seems that there's more people than Portorosso even has.)
Giulia: (Trying to look for the boys) Luca? Alberto? (Looking up at the townspeople) H-help-...
(Through the crowd, she spots Mr. Marcovaldo. For a brief moment, she has hope, but he shakes his head in disappointment and heads off through the crowd, disappearing.)
Giulia: (Grabbing the edge of the fountain, trying to reach out to him) Papa, please- Don't go-... I'm scared...
(Some of the townspeople start to wield harpoons and point them at her.)
Giulia: (Panicked, tucking closer to the center of the fountain) Someone... help-!!
(The word rings out for a moment as, back in the waking world and in human form, she immediately sits upright in bed, half-hyperventilating. Through the dim moonlight, she looks at her hands, then feels an ear, realizing that they're human. Her breath gradually starts to slow as she lays back down, but this time rolls over onto her side, eyes open and snuggling the covers a bit closer from fear.)
