Reader POV
Lucifer immediately dropped your hand in shock as the two of you entered his house instead of the hotel. You could tell he was embarrassed of his place. You watched him scrambling to put things away, cursing under his breath as he did so. You stood perfectly still. Your head spun from the portal, and you were trying to take in every detail as he scurried around.
You were surprised to step into Lucifer's home instead of the hotel, but honestly if he hadn't made such a scene you wouldn't have even noticed it was his house. You probably would have assumed it was just some random place. It didn't really seem like the place where a king would dwell, but it made sense that this place belonged to him the more you looked at it.
You stayed in the middle of the room as the portal closed and the golden light slowly dissipated.
It was quaint, a bit messy, but over all pretty cozy. The two of you entered into an open room, which had the makings to be an office or study. There was a small sofa, adjacent to a beautiful wooden desk. The desk itself was a work of art, it was the first thing you noticed. It was filled with the tools and tiny knick knacks of a working artist. He had his latest project, a small series of rubber duck figurines, lined up along the desk.
The rest of the room was dimly lit by all sorts of interestingly shaped lamps. There was a bit of light coming through the window, but the overhead light wasn't on and the light switch that would assumedly go to it had a large piece of tape on it. You assumed he shared your hatred for ugly overhead lights.
You slowly took a small walk around the room. He noticed and slowly stopped running around so frantically. You almost thought he seemed afraid of what you would think, but you knew that your opinion wouldn't matter to him.
You peeked at a book shelf that contained even more trinkets from throughout his lifetime. Most noticeably, there were a few picture frames of him and his family, with the taller woman's face scribbled out in all of them.
"I like your place, Charlie was so young here!" You smiled and called out to him as you pointed at a photograph.
He was now standing completely still, staring at you with a difficult expression on his face. You could usually read his emotions pretty well, but he seemed distant today.
"Thanks.. Uh, y-yeah. She was pretty young.." He answered you with a sigh before moving from his statue position.
He walked across the small room and joined you in looking at the bookshelf. You continued to admire little things on the shelves. He had quite the collection of tiny pieces.
"These are beautiful, what's in them?" You asked while admiring the glistening bottles that lined his windowsill.
"Those are old perfume samples. I always admired a good smelling soul." His demeanor relaxed a little bit as he laughed.
You laughed along with him and smiled as he visibly became less tense.
"I really like your house you know. It's actually really beautiful." You turned to face him with a gentle look on your face.
"I know you brought me here on accident, judging by the way you reacted when we stepped in." You laughed a little bit again as he turned a bit red.
"But really, your home is remarkable." You continued as you gently grabbed his hands in yours and smiled softly. "I'd love to see more if you'd allow me, but we can also just go back to the hotel if you're really waiting on that apple pie."
His reddened face shifted to a soft shade of pink as you grabbed his hands. His blush made you smile.
"I'd love to show you more, but maybe another day. Frankly I'm still quite embarrassed you've seen it like this." He looked at the ground while he gestured to the mess that surrounded the two of you.
"Sure, whatever you'd rather do! Though it's really not that messy! We can go back and start baking if you're ready! Do you need to grab anything while we're here?" You asked him.
"I think I'm good." He thought for a moment. "Yeah, I'm ready to go, I don't need anything."
He held your hand a little tighter as he opened a fresh portal to the hotel. He pulled you through gently, after he checked that you would end up in the right place this time.
You reappeared in the now empty hotel lobby, tightly wrapped in his arms.
"Jeez.. I don't think I'll ever get used to portal travel." You sighed and laughed quietly, holding onto him tightly for balance as he continued to hold you for a moment.
"It gets easier." He whispered and rubbed your back, smiling at you contentedly.
After a few moments, his hand held yours tightly as the two of you turned to go to the kitchen. Now it was your face that turned pink.
