Reader POV:

You chose not to acknowledge his apron, knowing he would probably throw it to the ground and stomp out of the kitchen if you riled him up again. He was somehow either completely oblivious to the wording on it, or he was trying to get you back for teasing him earlier.

You figured you would just bake the pie in peace so avoid ruining the moment, because despite the banter, you both seemed to be enjoying yourselves.

"I finished slicing the apples, are you done preheating the stove yet?" You asked him while you rinsed the apple juice off of your hands.

"Yup! Its ready, I have the flour and butter in the pan warming up, but its not boiling yet."

"Ok, let me know when its boiling and I'll bring the sugar and stuff." You dried your hands and began kneading the pie crust into the pan you planned to bake it in.

You finished molding the crust and began lining it with the apples you had just cut up before he called you over.

You stepped over to him, water and sugar mixed in a measuring cup. You tapped his shoulder softly, telling him to move over. You poured the mixture into the pan, mixed it, and told him to let it sit for a few minutes.

You were about to step away from him again, when he linked his arm through yours.

"I don't want to take it off the stove, can you just wait until it's done? I know I live in Hell, but I don't like the heat from the stove." He spoke softly.

"Yeah, that's fine. I'll take it off the stove once it's ready." You smiled at him and set a two minute timer on the stove.

"I'm sorry, I know I said I was gonna help you, but I haven't been very helpful I guess." He apologized as he rested his head on your shoulder.

"Hey, no! You're going to be very helpful! You're the taste tester!" You laughed softly as you wrapped your arm around him for reassurance.

The two of you stood there for a moment, watching the pie paste rest on the stove. You frowned as the timer dinged softly, letting you know the minutes were past. You poured the paste into the pie and let it sit for another minute, placing the remainder of the crust strips over it, before you put it on the oven.

This time you let him set the timer, a longer one this time. You let out a sigh of relief now that the oven door was closed and the timer was set.

"45 minutes should be plenty of time to clean this stuff up!" You began to gather up the utensils and dishes you had used when cooking.

"Yeah, I'm sure that will be plenty of time! I'm sure we'll even finish before that!" He smiled back at you as he began to help you clean.

"I may be bad at baking, but I can help you tidy up!" He laughed as he went to the sink and turned the water on.

He cleaned the dishes, you wiped the countertop, the both of you threw washcloths and his apron in the laundry basket. If he saw the wording on it now, he ignored it completely.

It was growing later into the evening now. The kitchen was clean and the pie still had a while to go in the oven, and it had to set through the night too. You left Lucifer in the kitchen for a moment to look for something to do in the lobby. You needed to stay close enough to hear the oven timer go off, otherwise you'd rather go to your room.

You searched through cabinets, rifled through drawers, and eventually found what you were looking for. A deck of cards, belonging to Husk.

It was a beautiful deck, black and gold, thoroughly used, and clearly loved. You remembered playing poker with Husk when you first arrived at the hotel, before learning that he was a master gambler. Charlie was not very pleased when she learned he broke her rule by playing with you.

You laughed at that thought, remembering the look on his face as he tried to backtrack. You held the cards in your hand as you stood up. You nearly jumped out of your skin when you turned to see a silent Lucifer standing right behind you.

"What the fuck! You could've killed me! Again!" You rested your back against the nearest wall to recover.

"Sorry, sorry." He chuckled. "It was the perfect opportunity! I just had to!" He had no regret at all.

"You're lucky I didn't swing." You sighed loudly.

He was still laughing a little when he noticed the cards in your hand.

"Is that how we're going to pass the time?" He asked.

"I mean, yeah? If you want to." You answered. "I'd rather watch TV or something, but you-know-who would have a total meltdown" You whispered the last part.

He smiled. "Yeah! He totally would! I'm fine with playing cards, but if it's a complicated game, then you'll have to teach me. I don't really know any games except go-fish and war."

"Ok, the pie shouldn't be too long anyway, those two games will hold us over for a while!"

You and Lucifer stepped a few feet over to the small-ish rectangular table in the middle of the room. You sat across from each other, and he watched as you shuffled the game. Once you finished, you passed it to him to deal.
