I was an old dog with white hairs. I was also sick all the time. I was blind in one eye and practically deaf in both ears. So why did you choose me? Out of all the dogs in the pound you chose me?

My new home was small but cozy and there was a big backyard outside. I lived happily for a year and a half and then you brought my brother home. He was annoying at times but I loved him. He was only a puppy so I took it as my responsibility to show him how to be a real dog.

We played in the snow during winter, sniffed flowers during spring, ran in fields during summer, and rested next to the fireplace during fall.

I especially enjoyed eating with you. I would hide under the table while you slipped me pieces of bacon. Your mother would always scold you but you didn't care. As long as I was content nothing else mattered.

One day you had to leave for something called college. I was sad but you promised to come back so I promised to wait.

Everyday I laid down beside the door in hopes that you'd be the one to open it. Whenever you did I wagged my tail with joy and bumped my nose against your leg. I was too old to jump up on you, plus my hips and joints hurt too much, so instead I used the next best thing I could come up with.

One day you came back with another little brother for me. My brother and I taught him everything we knew. My brother was growing up. He was already past his teen stage. I was so proud of him. So were you.

I started to get sick. Not really sick, just sick. You didn't know what was wrong with me. You took me to the vet and they said I didn't have very long left to live.

That day you begged someone called "God" not to take me.

The day afterwards must've been the happiest day ever for me. We got something you called a "pup cup". It was my first one ever. You bought me all sorts of food. We went on car rides and I played at the park with my brothers. I think the best part about it though, was when we spent that night cuddled up together.

In the morning we headed straight to the vet. I was exhausted and could barely stand, but I did for you. I stumbled into the vet, you at my side. You insisted I lie down, so I did. The vet came in and gave me a shot. I was a little annoyed but I knew you wanted it to happen, so I let it.

My eyes started to grow heavy and my heart started to slow. I nuzzled up to your knees as you bent down to sit beside me. I wanted to sit up and give you a kiss on your cheek one last time, but I found no energy in me. I figured what was happening.

Maybe you'd grown tired of me. Maybe you didn't want me anymore. But as I saw the tears running down your face, I knew. You just wanted the best for me.

I'll never forget the times we sat on the couch and watched movies together. You loved horror and though the loud noises might've scared me at times, you taught me to love it anyway. I knew you liked sweet gestures so everyday I brought you your mail even though it was so hard for me to get up in the mornings. Whenever we went outside I always found you easily. Even blind, I'd still find you in a pack of wolves. Whenever you called to me I'd strain my ears to hear what you were saying because I never wanted to stop hearing your voice.

Even now as you sob with my head in your lap, I'm still trying to hear you speak. You're voice was sweet like honey and it'll be the one thing I'll never forget. Never.

I may have only known you for two years, but those were the best years of my life.
