Chapter Forty-Five | Eliana
The abandoned warehouse that Rosie told me to meet her at, has me grimacing at the state of the building. It looks like it could collapse at any moment. The steel bars that are just about keeping it up are rusty as hell and I feel even looking at them will give me tetanus.
"Over here." I jump and spin around at the echoing voice. Rosie is sitting at a table with her legs resting on top of it as she leans back comfortably with her back against the seat, her toned arms crossed over her chest. I wince at the fresh bruise on her cheek, knowing exactly why she got it.
My movements toward her are slow and calculated. I'm not stupid. Although, I see the resemblance between her and Reid, meaning there is no denying they are siblings, she's only just arrived. And I'm beginning to wonder why now out of all the moments she has chosen to show up.
My eyes cautiously roam around my surroundings. None of the family knows I'm gone. I left Reid asleep in bed and had to sneak out the window and disarm the alarms just to get off the premises because King took my advice and did a great job. Too great of a job that it took me an hour.
Thankfully none of them followed me.
"I thought you weren't going to shop up. Take a seat." I inspect the chair first and then drop my ass onto it. Rosie grins and pulls out a huge rolled-up piece of paper and unravels it onto the table. I glance down at what looks to be a map of a building.
"And this is?" I raise a brow.
"Where Baker has been comfortably cooped up while you all went on a wild goose chase to find him." She stares me dead in the eye. "This place is off the grid, and I mean completely off, not even the government can locate it."
"What is it some underground lair." I snort but my smile drops when Rosie doesn't react. "It is?" She nods.
"Near enough." She shrugs. "Baker has an extremely huge problem at the moment. His most precious level 10s are roaming the streets freely and he isn't happy about that. Unfortunately for him, he is also a wanted man, hence why he is here." She points her finger on the blueprint.
"He hasn't left the building this whole time."
"No, because he has been compromised. Mostly because of you." Excuse me?! "You were his favourite. He was not expecting you to turn against him. I know, how delusional of him. The problem is, when you were under his control, he was able to brainwash you but that was not a permanent resolution and those memories would soon return if you were not under his command, which I assume they slowly are returning to you?"
"Yes," I whisper, shuddering at the latest memory.
"Well, he has no control over you anymore which leaves him vulnerable. It doesn't help that you are now a part of the Marino family, and they are a powerful family, Eliana. More than you realise." My brows furrow. "Baker does not fear many people, but somebody he does fear is his half-brother."
"King?" Rosie nods.
"And there is one more person."
"Who?"
"You."
I laugh. "Baker fears me? He's got a funny way of showing it."
