It was now pretty late, and the movie they were watching was finished. Katsumi stood up from the sofa and stretched her arms, not sure what the right thing to do next was. She wanted to go to sleep in her bed, but she didn't know what Shoto was going to do.

When he said he wanted to stay, she had no idea what he'd meant. Did he mean he wanted to stay the night, or was he leaving once she went to bed? She felt too shy to ask.

"Um, I'm going to head to bed," she told him, hoping he would tell her what he was doing. He didn't look to be in comfortable clothes to sleep over, but it was pretty late. It wouldn't be odd if he crashed on the couch.

Shoto stood up from the sofa and checked his phone for the time. Katsumi did the same, nothing that it was past midnight now.

"This might be weird, but do you mind if I stay until I know you're asleep?" he asked. "I just want to make sure you're alright, given what happened earlier."

"I'll be fine," she told him. "If I have a bad dream, I can handle it. They're just dreams. They're not real."

"I know. But it's important that you rest properly in order to get back to feeling your best again." He picked up the pillow and blanket from the couch and started to head back to her room, not waiting for an answer. Katsumi followed him, keeping her complaints to herself. He was just trying to be nice, so she should let him. She needed to stop being such a prick about it if all he was doing was trying to help out.

When she reached her bedroom, Shoto was already putting the pillow back in place and had the blanket laid back out on the bed. She hovered by the door and watched him, holding her arms tightly around her middle section. She watched him bend over the bed as he made it for her, and she did (not) admire his backside as he did so. When he was done, he looked over at her awkwardly, waiting for her to cross the room to the bed, which she did. Sitting down on the edge of the mattress, she looked up at him, feeling like she needed to say something. Like always, she couldn't tell what he was thinking as he held her gaze for longer than was comfortable.

She didn't know when it had gotten so awkward to hold eye contact with Shoto, but that was a thing now, and she didn't understand it. Looking at him longer than necessary made her heart flutter and her cheeks warm to the touch. He might have noticed this because he started to shift his weight on his feet as he looked at her, but he didn't avert his gaze. Katsumi didn't know what it was she was feeling in the air between the two of them, but it was thick enough to cut with a knife.

"I'm going to do something, and you're not going to say anything snarky, alight?" Shoto finally said, his voice low.

"Okay," she said, the single word coming out of her mouth far breathier than she intended.

Shoto suddenly leaned forward and placed a hand on her cheek before pressing his lips against hers, and Katsumi swore she felt her heart leap into her throat. His lips lingered for a few seconds, soft and warm against hers. Her mind went blank. Even if she wanted to say anything snarky, she couldn't form a single coherent thought.

When he pulled away, she chased after him, pressing her mouth against his this time, more firmly than the last time their lips met. The tension that had been building between them all day seemed to snap suddenly, and his hand snaked around to the back of her neck to pull her harder against him. He parted his lips against hers, taking her bottom lip between his teeth, and tugging on it gently. Katsumi's hands found the front of Shoto's shirt and she gripped the fabric tightly in an attempt to pull him closer. It was as if her body was on autopilot now, and all she could think about was how to get him closer and how to keep kissing him.

As their lips met in a passionate kiss, Katsumi tried her best to pour all of her unspoken thoughts into the movements. There were things she couldn't get herself to say out loud, but she hoped that Shoto would get the message. When Shoto's tongue brushed against her lips in a silent plea for her to open up, she lost it. There was absolutely no way she could deny her feelings now. She wanted him.

She needed him.

She parted her lips for him, and their tongues met, swirling around one another in a slow and passionate dance. She let out a breathy sound as his tongue explored her mouth, and that only seemed to fuel Shoto's drive. He pulled back briefly, only stopping to press her down against the mattress and carefully lift her legs into the bed before climbing on top of her to continue their intimate moment.

He pushed her legs open with his knee in order to press himself against her as he continced the kiss. It slowly devolved from the sweet and passionate kiss it started as into something hotter as their tongues and teeth clashed against each other. When Shoto started to make breathy and needy sounds against Katsumi's lips, the heat in her lower abdomen started to grow, and so did her need to have him closer.

Then, Shoto began to kiss along her jaw, and she shifted her head in order to bare her neck to him as he kissed a trail down her warm skin. As he kissed her, he gently ran his tongue over her neck in between kisses, causing her to whimper and wrap her arms around him tighter. Then, he began to kiss the spot where her shoulder met her neck, and she froze.

Memories started coming back, and it felt as if she'd been doused with a bucket of ice water. When she closed her eyes, she could still feel Mind Maker's mouth on her body, causing her to tense and shiver. Shoto must have felt this because he stopped abruptly and put a little bit of space between the two of them, propping himself up with his hands on either side of her body.

"Are you alright with this?" he asked her as he attempted to catch his breath. Katsumi opened her eyes and focused on Shoto's face as her breathing started to quicken with the sudden onslaught of memories. It was as if once they started, she couldn't stop them. They just kept coming.

She kept her eyes open and focused on Shoto's noting the panic behind his stare. He sat up, bringing her with him, holding her body close to his. Katsumi clung to him, keeping her eyes fixed on his face.

It was Shoto she was with. Not Mind Maker. She wanted to do this. She wasn't under his control anymore.

"I..." Katsumi trailed off after trying to speak, not able to get the words out of her mouth. She wanted Shoto to know this wasn't his fault. She wanted to kiss him. She wanted to be with him. But when he kissed her like that, it unexpectedly threw her right back into the survival mindset she'd been in for so long, and she almost felt as if her subconscious was trying to crawl away into that dark corner of her mind again to hide from the actions she made. "I don't know if I can do this."

Shoto looked at her with a careful expression as he brushed the blonde hairs out of Katsumi's face.

"I understand, just relax, okay?" Shoto told her, still holding her close. She sunk into his embrace, not wanting him to let go. The memories were starting to fade now, and her breathing began to settle as he held her. Shoto rubbed a firm hand up and down her back, helping her pull herself back to the present moment.

After she had finally settled down, Shoto laid her back down in the bed and pulled the blanket up to her chin. He kissed her forehead and sat on the edge of the bed. Katsumi just continued to look at him as he moved, trying to keep her mind occupied with the present moment.

Part of her just knew that she was going to have terrible dreams that night when she finally fell asleep.
