Chapter Twenty-Eight

It was now nightfall, and Shoto had returned to his home. He'd been thinking about Katsumi and their lunch together all day, wondering why it had been so awkward. 

They'd never really been friends before, and he knew that it would all get messed up if he acted on his feelings--and he did it anyway. He had to go and kiss her and burn the bridges he'd built with her. 

Telling by how long it had taken for her to reach out to him, he knew that she regretted kissing him back. He should have known that she wouldn't be ready for something like that so soon after being rescued from Mind Maker. Yet, he kissed her anyway. 

He was so angry with himself for letting this happen. He was so angry that he couldn't keep his hands to himself that night and let her be. She was so quiet during lunch, and it had to be because she was still feeling awkward about what happened. It was so stupid that he allowed this to happen. 

The last thing he wanted to do was make her feel uncomfortable around him, but that's what happened. During lunch, she didn't even have anything snarky to say. That was completely out of character for how their interactions always went. He'd messed things up so badly between them that their relationship had been set back further than it ever had.

"You have to go. It'll be fun!" Ochaco told Katsumi. "Everyone will be there."

"No one wants me to go to that kind of stuff," Katsumi reasoned. 

It was supposed to be a sort of class reunion for their class from UA, which meant Shoto would most definitely be there. She wasn't ready to see him again. 

Katsumi had been wrestling with her feelings for him for days now, not sure what to do with them. He didn't want her, yet she just couldn't let go of her feelings. She hated that she held all these feelings and had nowhere to set them down. She hadn't even talked to Ochaco about how things had gone. She was too humiliated. 

Ochaco had seemed so sure that Shoto would feel the same way that Katsumi did. But she was wrong. 

"Of course people want you to go! It's a reunion after all."

"Ilkk make an appearance," Katsumi finally bargained. "But I'm not staying the whole time. Everything went to shit the last time they brought out the alcohol. I'm not ready for a repeat of what happened last time everyone got together."

Ochaco laughed. "That was how Kirishima and Mina got together, you know," Ochaco stated. She leaned against Katsumi's desk as she spoke. "Big fight, but they ended up dating afterward."

Katsumi rolled her eyes. "It was so dramatic," she sighed. "I have no interest in sitting through something like that again. It was awkward as hell."

"It won't be like that this time."

"If you say so..."

Ochaco had come over to Katsumi's apartment to help her get ready for the reunion. It was to take place at a local bar that Ochaco and her friends frequented. As far as drinking went, it wasn't something that Katsumi did a lot. While Katsumi complained about the excess alcohol drinking from the last time, her friend had completely neglected to tell her that the get-together was taking place at a bar. 

She sighed as Ochaco started throwing things at her from her closet. Katsumi knew how to dress herself, but Ochaco enjoyed dressing her up for occasions like this, so she let the brunette have at it. 

While she tried on the various pieces of clothing Ochaco had pulled for her, she couldn't help but think about how stupid this all was. While they were out here partying and getting drunk, Mind Maker was still out there.
