Recap:

We quickened our pace, praying we would make it to my room before my parents did.

*************************

My house was in sight, as we continued running through the stretch of woods. We jump over a log and Jane lands gracefully and continues running, I trip over something sticking out of the ground by the log and fall to the ground. I jump back up, so I can continue running and a sharp pain shoots up my ankle.

"Ahh.." I grimaced in pain.I bit down on my lip, as I waited for the pain to subside. The pain only dulled slightly as I held it in and ran, as best I could, the remaining distance.

I slowed down my pace as I came to the tree, that we could climb to get into my window. As I put my foot on the first branch, I could see that Jane had already reached my window. She was climbing in and glanced down at me, she gave me a worried look and I figured she probably saw me grimacing. I pointed to my ankle and I shook my head at the tree, as a way to say I might take me a while to climb. Jane nods back at me understandingly and climbs into my window, I squint my eyes to see Jane and see she has a look of someone who has a plan on her face.

Jane disappears into my room and I hoist myself up onto the first branch, the pain in my ankle intensifies but I continued climbing.

I finally reach my window sill, as my ankle screamed out in pain. I climb into my room and close the window.

I glance around my room and see that it appears my parents haven't quite made it to my room yet.

Somewhat relieved, I walk out of my room to find Jane and see where in the house my parents are.

I walk downstairs and hear people talking in the living room. I see Jane talking to my parents, it seems like Jane is asking them random questions, whatever pops in her mind.

Before Jane ran out of things to say,I step into the living room trying my hardest not to limp.

I clear my throat.

"Hey, did you have fun in Florida?"

"It was okay, but we didn't find what we were looking for." Replies my mom. I assume she is talking about new ideas for dad and her to use at their mental hospital.

"Well, Jane is staying to night, so we are just going to continue our movie night." I say as though we had been watching movies all night.

"Okay, have fun." My parents say as Jane and I go upstairs.

The adrenaline was still pumping through our veins as we stepped into my room and closed the door.

"That was so close." Jane says.

"I know." I say as I sit down on my bed and rub my now swollen ankle.

"How is it?" Jane asked gesturing to my ankle.

"It's fine. I think it is just sprained. It shouldn't take that long to heal." I reply hopefully as I slid an ankle compression brace onto my ankle.

Even though it was past midnight and we just sprinted for our lives across the woods, we were far from tired. We were sitting on my bed, slightly shocked at our close call.
