Death

It was Death's kiss
That lingered on my cheek
From the day of my birth.

Oh, how she loved me so.
Life taught me many things,
She showed me many things
To love, to hold and to cherish.
But it is Death I shall always return to.

Death's love was neither warm nor cold,
It felt almost loveless as it was lifeless,
Yet she remained by my side,
Ready to catch me if I ever fall.

Death can be so cruel yet so kind.
Her cold emptiness;
A bewildering nothingness thus far,
Only to accept you with open arms,
Not ever minding what you did
Or who you ever were.
