I woke up the next day at 5:30 as Lachlan requested the night before. It was a Sunday but I needed "to get used to the weekday rhythm" as he said.
I had only slept three hours, thinking of Adrian and getting used to this new place. Three hours was still a good amount of sleep, more than I slept these past months.

I prepared myself by taking a quick shower and dressing up with a pair of jeans and a black turtleneck top. At 6, I was in the kitchen preparing myself a quick coffee.
Lachlan must have been already outside as I was hearing the far sound of a tractor engine. I was busying myself cleaning the dishes and the table from what I guessed was Lachlan's breakfast plate.
A few minutes later, as I was folding a plaid on the sofa when the door opened. Lachlan appeared in the hallway, his coat was wet as he took it off as well as his boots. Despite his hat, his light brown hair were dripping wet from the Highlands morning rain.
I was so caught in looking at Lachlan that I didn't notice the two dogs who entered the house.
Two Border Collies were following Lachlan who barely acknowledged my presence by a sign of the head.
The youngest dog saw me and ran toward me before I had the chance to realise it. His muddy paws stained my black shirt and jeans as he proceeded to jump on me, making me lose my balance and fall halfway on the sofa, my ass hitting the floor in a loud thud.

Lachlan whistled and the dog sat beside me, wagging his tail looking at me.
I stood again looking at my ruined outfit, swearing under my breath. And it's not even 7 yet.

I looked at the dog and could not find the strength to be mad at him with his puppy eye and playful stare.

" Sorry Leannan don't hope to keep your fancy clothes clean in here. "

Fancy? And how did he call me?

" Well hello too sir, it's a pleasure to see you, by the way my name is Eleanor, not whatever you said. "

He looked at me, a glass of milk in the hand and I
could swear I saw the tiniest smirk crossing his lips.

" Leannan, and don't call me sir again. "

" I'll stop calling you sir when you says my name properly. "

He shrugged and turned to face the counter, grabbing the coffee pot and shaking it in the air as if to ask me if I wanted some.

" Yes please. "

" Milk and sugar? "

"Just milk please "

He looked at me, his brow lifted.

" Cow milk "

" The fu... yeah cow milk's fine. Can you try to be less condescending sometimes or is this stick in your ass so big you have to act like this 24/7 "

His eyes were wide open and I just processed what I had said. Shit. He turned himself back at the fridge and grabbed the milk to pour in our coffee. The fuck happened? He was indeed very infuriating, but I shouldn't have said that.

" I... "
I could not apologise, without looking at me he cut me in the middle of my sentence.

" I deserved it. "

He put his cup on the table and mine in front of him, making me sign to sit.

" No, listen I am very sorry and I get it, you don't want me there but I am here to help. I really don't want to be your enemy and I mean, I can take care of the kids during the day and you won't see me when I am off the clock I swear. Just try and give me a chance, okay ? "

He kept on looking straight into my eyes, not answering. I took a gulp of my burning coffee to escape his Insistent gaze. After what felt like minutes he finally answered.
