The next morning the whole scene felt like a dream. A very realistic dream. I woke up as usual without him and looked out the window to see only white fields. The snow had stopped falling down but at this early hour, it didn't melt, so I took a quick picture and sent it to my parents.
The lights in the stables were on and I saw Lachlan feeding the cattle in the distance. It was way too cold for me to go out for my walk so I took my shower and waited for him in the kitchen after I cleaned yesterday's mess.
Thankfully the lights were back, I was preparing the morning coffee wondering if I would have to bring the kids to school today, I doubted the snow would melt this morning and I was not comfortable driving on these slippery roads. I barely heard Lachlan enter the house, he passed the kitchen seemingly in a rush to take his shower.
"No walk today ?"
I smiled hearing his voice a few minutes later, the same one that pronounced these four words yesterday. I turned to face him.
"Do you want me to freeze to death?"
His calloused hands grabbed my chin to kiss my lips.
"I would never let you die, I would have rescued you before."
We kissed for what felt like hours before he took a step back to grab his coffee.
"Tonight I am going out with the lads."
I nodded, not surprised, as every Wednesday since I arrived.
"I'd like you to come down with me."
I paused in drinking my coffee and looked at him to see if he was serious.
"Who's going to mind the kids?"
"My mother."
"Will you go with this snow though?"
"It would have melted."
"I mean it's your only night out without me, are you sure you want me there?"
I saw in his eyes he took a bit of offence.
"Do you want to come or not ?"
I was a bit nervous at the idea, I had met the three of them briefly, Douglas seemed to be easy going but Alastair and Graham were the ones who made me a bit nervous, all gruff and all, though I did not doubt Graham could be nothing but a softie deep down. But if I refused Lachlan would be mad at me, he would take it the wrong way and we were doing so good, I didn't want to break that. And what if the guys don't like me?
"Stop overthinking this Leannan and answer."
His gruff voice brought me back to reality.
"Okay, I mean if the kids are getting to your mother and you want me there, I'll be there."
Lachlan smiled again. God this man was handsome, without noticing it my hand went to his cheek, slowly tracing the crease caused by his smile to the stumble of his chin.
" I love when you're looking at me that way."
"What way?"
" Like I am your world, like you only see me."
I circled my arms around his neck and he pulled me closer to him.
" That's cause you are my world and I only see you."
His lips moved to mine quickly and with so much strength that my back was pressed to the cupboard in no time. His belt was pressuring my lower abdomen causing my hips to jerk forward to find relief.
