Days had passed in a comfortable routine. The only thing that changed were the stolen kisses and the fact that Lachlan was sleeping in my bed. We had decided to wait a bit to tell the kids or anybody else about us. I wanted to tell somebody so bad. I missed my brother in those moments more than ever and realised how lonely I could still feel despite the happiness Lachlan and the kids brought me.
I was preparing dinner when I received a call. I picked it up.
"Hey."
"Hi girl, how are you? "
Bree's cheerful voice was coming through the speaker of the device.
"I was planning to go to the Lochside tonight for a couple pints. Would you be up for it ?"
I hesitated. I really wanted to go but at the same time I dreaded Lachlan's reaction.
"Yeah I'd love that, I just have to see with Lachlan's for the kids you know. "
"No problem, I'll be there by 8 anyways if you want to join."
I thanked her and hung up, exhaling, barely realising someone else was in the room.
"Who was it?"
I jumped in surprise to see Lachlan leaned against the door frame.
"Bree. She's asking me if I'd like to go out at the Lochside tonight. "
I saw a flash of jealousy crossing his eyes, he licked his lips before talking.
"Would you like to go?"
It looked like a trap and I hesitated once again. After a few seconds of silence, he closed the door and came closer to me.
"Leannan?"
He caressed my cheek and my bottom lips with his thumb, waiting for an answer. Lachlan was still intimidating to me, even though I didn't see him as a menace, I knew how jealous he could be.
"Yeah. I would like to go."
It was barely audible.
"Okay."
I frowned.
" Are you...Are you okay with it? "
"It's not about me being okay with it babe. It's about whether you want to go or not. You're with the kids all day and stuck with an old man like me most of the night, I am glad you get out a bit. Even if I must admit I am a bit jealous. "
I smiled and he kissed me.
"Though I have to be very clear on one thing. If one fucker decide to try his chance with you, that'll surely be the last thing he'll do. "
I laughed knowing Lachlan's wouldn't hurt a fly though he seems all gruff and grumpy. But when my eyes landed back to his face there was no trace of humour. Before I could speak again he kissed me. Harder this time, with more possession, owning my mouth with his tongue.
"You're mine. And I don't share. "
I stood there quiet for a few seconds as my core clenched and my breathing quickened.
"Understood Leannan?"
I nodded and he cocked his head to the side.
"Y-yes"
"Good."
A light knock was being heard behind the door. Lachlan kissed me quickly and went to open to Callum who was requesting his dad's attention.
I texted Bree to confirm I would be there and wondered if I could confide everything to her.
I went upstairs to change myself. I got a black pair of jeans, heeled boots and a sweater. The weather was freezing and the forecast had predicted snow. I put my hat and scarf on and passed briefly to the kitchen to kiss the kids goodnight. I looked at Lachlan who sent me a knowing wink before walking me to the door.
