Chapter 8.1: Walking On Eggshells
That sense of tranquility gradually evaporated as the day progressed. Haerin had entered my life like a whirlwind, leaving behind a wake of emotions. Upon waking, I was greeted by a chaotic scene, unlike any I had ever experienced. Despite my efforts to tidy up, my body ached from head to toe. The hospital bustled with activity, mirroring the chaos in my mind. Nevertheless, I persevered and carried on with my work.
As Jung-woo's return drew nearer, my heart pounded with a mixture of excitement and dread. It was Friday night, the night Haerin had planned with me, and the thought of facing her, knowing the secret we shared, filled me with both anticipation and fear.
When Jung-woo finally arrived home, I greeted him with a forced smile, trying to hide the guilt that threatened to consume me. "Welcome back," I said, my voice wavering slightly.
As we exchanged pleasantries, every word felt like a lie. I laughed at his jokes, but my mind was elsewhere, consumed by thoughts of Haerin and the risks we were taking. Each time her name flashed on his phone, my stomach twisted with anxiety.
As the night wore on, the tension between us grew palpable. When Jung-woo's phone buzzed again, I held my breath, praying he wouldn't notice. "You must be exhausted from your trip," I said, desperate to change the subject.
To my relief, he glanced at his phone and then back at me, oblivious to the danger it represented. "Yeah, it's been a long journey," he replied, his attention drifting back to our conversation.
As I bid him goodnight, a wave of relief washed over me. But the fear lingered, a constant reminder of the danger we were in. As I lay in bed that night, I vowed to be more careful in the future, knowing that one misstep could destroy everything we had worked so hard to conceal.
As I lay in bed beside my husband, the glow of my phone lighting up the dark room, I felt a pang of guilt as Haerin's messages continued to flood in. Each one was filled with desire, promising things she wanted to do to me, all while I was lying inches away from Jung-woo, my husband.
Suddenly, Jung-woo shifted beside me, and I froze, my heart pounding in my chest. I held my breath, hoping he wouldn't wake up and discover the truth. But then, he flinched, stirring from his sleep, and I knew I had to act fast.
Just as I was about to silence my phone, a voice call came through from Haerin. My heart stopped as I stared at the screen, torn between answering and risking waking Jung-woo, or ignoring it and potentially arousing suspicion.
In a moment of panic, I made a split-second decision. I shuffled out of bed as quietly as I could, trying not to disturb Jung-woo. With trembling hands, I grabbed my phone and slipped out of the room and into the suite, where I could answer Haerin's call without fear of being caught.
As I closed the door behind me, a rush of relief washed over me. But the guilt lingered, a constant reminder of the dangerous game I was playing. With a heavy heart, I answered Haerin's call, knowing that I was only digging myself deeper into the web of deceit we had woven.
He's in the next roomI felt a surge of frustration and desire mingling within me as Haerin's teasing words continued to test the limits of my restraint.
"He's in the next room," I repeated, my voice strained with urgency, knowing the danger of our situation.
But Haerin remained unfazed, her playful demeanor only adding fuel to the fire. "Is he? Shame, I was planning to pay a visit tonight," she purred, her words sending a thrill down my spine.
With every fiber of my being, I tried to resist her seductive advances. "Haerin, please," I pleaded, my voice barely audible as I struggled to maintain control.
