 L A S Y A

I was tired, deep drop tired as I walked towards my mother-in-law's room like a zombie. D-Day was just 2 days away and I was stressing about the event a lot, not only was it my new branch opening as well as Dada-dadi's anniversary party.

All the influential people around the country were invited and a big fat gala was thrown.

My in-laws thought it was a great idea to throw a big party and let their eldest daughter-in-law mingle with the elite groups and introduce herself again.

The gathering wasn't an issue, what was bothering me the most was that I was planning everything. And the fear of not being able to match the Mehrotras standards was creeping onto my skin.

After a month with this family, I knew that they were precise about everything, fashion, equities, morals, family traditions and whatnot.

They were perfect in everything. Especially the ladies, they were the optimum of perfection, they carried themselves with so much standards and grace. Everything was just so much admirable about them.

And the Mehrotras were on the headlines daily, not a day went without any news article printed about us.

I held my head in my hand as I pulled at my roots because of the hammering ache. I stumbled towards my mother-in-law's room and knocked on the door before entering.

Inside all the ladies were present, even Ziya, as they talked about the outfits they were going to finalize.

"Lasya beta, sab changa?", dadi asked when she noticed my disturbed expressions. "My head is bursting dadi", I cried out and walked towards the couch. All of them gave me a sorrowful look, their eyes filled with sympathy.

[Translation: Lasya, everything is alright?]

I plopped myself on the couch beside my mother-in-law and leaned towards her. She wrapped her hand around my shoulder and leaned my body in a sleeping position. She placed my head in her lap, while I stared at her in shock.

"Pair uppar lo", she said and I placed my dangling legs on the couch. She smiled down at me before gently angling my face in her lap. "Ab accha lag raha hai?", she softly combed her fingers through my hair before massaging my head with firmness.

[Translation: keep your legs up.

: now are you feeling better?]

"You have such soft hair Lasya, bohot achche baal hai aapke", Maa complimented, feeling the texture of my hair and I just passed her a lazy smile.

[Translation: your hairs are so pretty]

I got that compliment a lot, well I took upon my Nani when she had such long and luscious hair. So thick and shiny, and they reached below her hips. She would always narrate tales of the secret behind her hair.
