Chapter XIII
"Kids, time for dinner," Grandma announced. All of them were hanging out near the pool area, having a few snacks. "We are coming, Halmoni," Jin responded for all.
The dining room was eerily silent before Kim SeokMin stood up. Beside him, Sungi followed suit. "We both have an announcement to make," SeokMin held Sungi's hand and smiled at her genuinely, while Mr. Kim senior rolled his eyes. "Appa, eomma, Kids, we are having the marriage ceremony the day after tomorrow, in the golf course."
"What?!" Grandpa Kim's voice rang through the ears. His son's audacity to marry the woman he rejected and had a contract signed with, that too in his family house, was a huge disrespect for him, while SeokMin smirked in his pettiness.
"Oh hell yeah!" Twins shouted and were already dancing.
"That's great, but how are we going to do the arrangements so soon?" Jin asked. "Yeah, tell us you mighty head!" Grandpa Kim taunted. "Oh, don't worry about that! Taebae and I had already selected both of their outfits, and we have suits ready for all. But what about the guests?" Taehee explained.
"Oh, do not worry darling. We are having an immediate family ceremony only. Your aunty and uncle, cousins will be here tomorrow morning. Also, Sungi's family will be here as well. Decorations are not a big deal, and we already have enough staff and place to accommodate the whole family," SeokMin replied, patting Taehee's head.
That Night
"Halmoni, you called me? Is everything okay?" Taehee asked entering her grandma's bedroom. "Ahh, Yes Yes, come sit my dear." Taehee sat down on the sofa facing the balcony, beside her grandma who was gazing at the beautiful boxes kept in front of her on the coffee table. "Halmoni, is there something bothering you?" Taehee broke the silence. "I won't lie to you dear, you also know," she paused. "Your father's decision to marry Ms. Park, do you support it?"
"Halmoni, I know what you are worried about, but trust me," Taehee held her grandma's hand in her own. "She is a really lovely woman. She is trustworthy, and we should respect appa's choice. Eomma has been gone for a long, long time now. It's time you move on as well." Her grandma patted her hand as she pulled them away with a deep sigh. "I see, she must be a nice lady, to have impressed you. But I am your Halmoni, there is something I must tell you and give you, for I must look after you and all my grandkids."
She leaned forward and picked the boxes from the table. She delicately opened each box, cradling them on the sofa between them, each one brimming with a treasure of exquisite, delicately engraved jewelry. The gems nestled within gleamed with an ethereal luminescence, casting a mesmerising dance of light upon the younger's face. Each piece told a tale about their mother, the beautiful, elegant lady she was, with a very fine taste for the business she bestowed to her only daughter.
"Is that eomma's jewellery?" Taehee asked the obvious question. It's been years; she has seen these pieces multiple times in her mother's pictures, and she had been handed down one of these pieces on her birthday, every year by her grandmother. "This is Kim's family inheritance, that is entitled to only you. Your mother made these, kept them in my care for only you, and when she knew she wouldn't survive this fate for long, she gave them to me," her grandma looked into the distance. "Saying, the day Seokmin decides to marry someone, all of these to be given to you," she turned to look at Taehee. "And today I give you these, and I hope you'll respect and cherish these memories of your mother after you give Ms. Park a place in your life." Taehee smiled. "You know me, Halmoni. I will always respect and remember my eomma, and I will never give her place to anyone else, ever." Her grandma leaned over and hugged her, saying, "My dearest granddaughter."
Next Day
Kim Su Ryeon, Kim SeokMin's only sibling flew in from the US today, along with her husband Joo Dan-tae, and her twins Joo Seok-Kyung and Joo Seok-hoon, the Kim siblings' cousins. The Park siblings along with Namjoon and Seokjin and Seok-hoon started to help out with the decor of the golf course's pond end, setting tables and overseeing the lunch prep, while the twins with Seok-kyung were arranging the formals for all and the wedding proceedings. Meanwhile, Kim Su Ryeon and her husband were getting older Kims to be more involved with the wedding, and helping Seokmin and Sungi with the wedding preparations as well as the big news that is going to follow afterward.
