Chapter 21: A Man and His Creation

Lockwood Manor (December 2017)

Outside, it looked like a regular estate building, inside however, it contained a plethora of secrets.

Down in the subbasement was a creature like no other. One that looked like a Velociraptor, but at the same time didn't. A creature of the future built upon pieces from the past.

He was supposed to be perfect. He should be perfect. But was he?

In this underground basement, there were many holding pens or cells. They were too big to be prison cells and were actually meant to hold animals. There was also a large gate nearby and a giant garage outside. The gate was only used to transport animals into the basement. But as of right now, there was only one resident in the basement.

At the edge of the basement, there was a single cell that was different from the others. It was completely dark and had a broken light bulb. There was hay on the floor of the cell but there was also blood. The trail of blood led to a rat. But this rat was cut in half and only it's back half was intact and was slowly rotting.

In the right corner of the cell, there was an animal. But some would prefer to call it a monster. It had a streamlined body built for speed, long limbs, four fingers, large sickle claws, a long tail, quills on its back and neck, a row of osteoderms, uneven teeth, and a once spotless body that was now littered with scars that were in the process of healing.

This wasn't just any animal. It was a tortured soul. One who lost everything he loved. Even he didn't know why he kept on living. Or maybe he did know but he was slowly losing his mind.

It was Ripper. But this was before he met Blue, before he had Fang. He was a teenager during this stage in his life so he was much shorter than he would become years later.

Ripper was curled up into a ball like a scared cat. He was shivering in the corner and whimpering. He tried to close his eyes as tightly as he could. But the one thing he couldn't drown out was the sound of footsteps. And those footsteps were getting closer, and closer to his cell.

The young Indoraptor opened his eyes once, he saw a silhouette of a man approaching him. When he saw the man, he immediately closed his eyes again and hoped that the man would leave as soon as possible.

Why did he have to end up in a place like this? A month ago, he did an amazingly good deed for an amazingly good dinosaur, doesn't he deserve better than to live in what is essentially a prison for dinosaurs?

A banging noise was heard as the man he was looking at whacked the cell with a taser stick to try to get his attention. Ripper covered his eyes and wished as hard as he could for the man to leave. But whatever he did, the man would not move an inch away from the poor hybrid's cell.

He breathed heavily, and as much as he hated to do it, he opened his eyes slowly and peaked at the man who was eyeing him.

The man then activated the taser stick. When the electric humming noise from the stick entered Ripper's ear holes, he started to whimper even more. The small bolts that the stick was emitting looked like tiny hands to him. Tiny hands that wanted to latch on and shock his whole body until all he can do is squirm in misery.

Many dinosaurs see Ripper as a sort of grim reaper. Some even go as far as calling him nothing more than a story for dinosaurs to use to scare their children. But they never stop to ask what he went through to become who he ended up being in the future. And it was all because of one man and his demented goals.

The taser stick was held a little higher. Because of how bright the tip of the stick was when it was being used, the man's face could now be seen.

But it wasn't a face that Ripper was fond of. Especially since this face took anything and everything that mattered to the young Indoraptor.
