"Head straight north. There's going to be thousands of refugees. Just get into that street and don't look up." Cressida tells us as Tigris brings coats for us to wear "We got one shot" Kattnis says "Let's make it count" Gale nods "Good luck Kattnis" Cressida says and Kattnis hugs her "Thank you" Kattnis mumble back Then I give Cressida a hug "Thank you Cressida" I tell her "Good luck Evelyn" she nods "Pollux" I say as I turn to see him. He starts to sign but I just give him a big hug "Thank you" I tell him before we pull apart
"Tigris thank you for everything you've done" Kattnis tells her "Thank you Tigris" I smile as well "Evelyn let me come with you ok. I could be a good distraction they might- " Flynn says but I cut him off "No, I'm not losing you again." I tell him "You'll be safer with us" Cressida tells him "Peacekeepers are searching houses and if they're captured..." Gale trials off "Then give us a nightlock pull ok. We're not going back" Peeta quickly says We all stand around looking at each other before Gale starts to grab the nightlock pills
He gives Peeta and Flynn one then Kattnis faces Peeta and uncuffs him. I walk over to Flynn before looking up at him. "Stay alive please" I tell him "As long as you keep the same promise I will princess" he tells me I pull him into a tight hug holding my eyes shut not wanting to let go. I finally pull apart when Gale speaks up "Ready Kattnis? Evelyn?" He says and I let go of Flynn "Let's go" Kattnis says as we all put on our hoods and walk out
As we start to make it to the crowd a lower my head even more seeing how many people there were. We join the crowd walking into the middle to try and hide better from the peacekeepers. As we get closer I look up to see peacekeepers standing on trucks by the gate, snows mansion right behind them.
I glance up again making eye contact with a little girl that was being held by her mom. She instantly lifts her head up, I look down glancing by every few seconds to see her still looking at me. Then I look up at the gate, the peacekeepers were checking everybody, removing their hoods. Kattnis Gale and I all quickly turn around knowing we can't get through. Then Kattnis and I look up to see more peacekeepers making their way towards us from the back of the crowd. We slowly turn back around walking towards the mansion again.
I feel the peacekeeper grab my shoulder when something explodes making everyone drop to the ground. "It's the rebels!!" People start to scream and run "Run!! Run!!" They yell as I turn to see the rebels with guns shooting every soldier they could. I look up when I see another part of the building explode. Then I look in front of me to see the same little girl screaming for her mom to wake up. I get up to run to the little girl but Gale grabs my arm making me run forward instead. I wanted to turn back but there was nothing I could do. We take off sprinting jumping over the barrier. Gale grabs a gun from a peacekeeper before we get up and jump over the next barrier. We keep running trying our best to dodge bullets and bombs.
We jump behind one of the vehicles but as soon as we do it explodes causing us to jump out of the way. Kattnis and I go one way as Gale goes on the opposite side. I watch as Kattnis stand up grabbing her bow, and that's when I realize the peacekeepers grabbed Gale. She lifts up her bow as I hear Gale yell "Shoot me!! Shoot me!!" He yells at her but I knew she couldn't do it. She slowly lowers her bow as he gets pulled into the truck. Another bomb goes off behind us and I grab Kattnis' arm "We gotta go Kattnis!" I tell her as we take off running again hiding behind a truck.
We both throw our hoods back on before taking off running again. We make it to the front of the gate with a crowd of people yelling "Stay calm! Bring your children forward!" I hear over the speakers Kattnis and I start to shove our way forward before climbing up the truck to see what was happening. We both watch in horror as the guards start to take the children away from their family's carrying them over the barrier.
Then we hear a plane. Kattnis and I turn to see a plane slowly fly over everyone. "It's the Capitol!" Someone yells As it flys over it drops these little packages that float down slowly. "Gifts from the Capitol!" People yell People start to lift there hands up towards them as I look at Kattnis "Something doesn't feel right" I tell her And as soon as I finish all the packages explode causing Kattnis and I to fall off the truck.
I slowly sit up looking at all the people on the ground. Horror fills my face as I see all the bodies lying on the ground. I stand up as doctors run by us. I watch as parents hold their children in their hands "Medic!!!" People start to scream looking at their loved ones dead on the ground
Kattnis and I start to walk closer to all of the people screaming and crying, tears fill my eyes as I see everyone. Then someone catches my eye "Prim?" I hear Kattnis mumble "Prim!" I yell "Primrose! Prim!" Kattnis yells as we start to walk closer.
Then a bomb goes off. Sending Kattnis and I flying backwards. Are jackets on flames
Everything in my sight starts to get darker and darker.
Ironic don't you think, the girls on fire die because of fire. Not the way I thought this would all end. I especially didn't think it would end right here, not after everything that's happened. Not after all the deaths. The last thought that goes through my mind as I start to succumb the darkness
Was all this even worth the fight? Or did I cause more pain by just being alive.....
