After the feast, Aelora sat in her quarters reading by the fire.
She needed a distraction from the memory of the fight that occurred moments after the king left.
Jace and Lucerys haven't matured and after witnessing them laughing as I pig was placed in front of Aemond was enough to prove such things.
She didn't expect they would provoke him over a childish joke.
As she turned to the next page of her book there was a knock on her door.
She closed her book before walking over the the door not knowing who would be visiting at this hour.
She opened the door to see Aemond.
"I apologise for coming to you so late.
I was hoping we could talk" he said.
"Of course.
Come in" she said.
He walked into her quarters.
"Before we speak I would like to apologize for my brothers.
What they did was childish and showed me that they have not grown over the years we have been separated" she said.
"Do not apologise.
You did not provoke me as they did" he said softly.
"It makes me fear for the future.
When we marry what will they do?
I cannot bear to think of the things they could do to ruin all of it" she said as she sat by the fire.
He walked to her before sitting on the chair beside her.
"Aelora.
Look at me" he said.
She looked up as their eyes met.
"You do not need to worry yourself over them.
Whatever they do or say I promise I will not respond in any way.
But I will say this.
If they insult you or harm you in any way moving forward I won't stand back.
If you are to be my wife I will protect you with all I have" he said before taking her hand.
She nodded.
"What did you wish to talk about?" she asked wanting to move on from her brothers.
"I wished to ask if you were alright.
You looked frightened earlier" he said.
"I wasn't frightened.
I was embarrassed and humiliated.
I thought they wouldn't be so idiotic.
This dinner was to unite both sides and they proved that both sides may never unite" she said.
"I wasn't any better than they were.
I provked them just as they did to me" he said.
"It never would have started if they had kept their laughter to themselves," she said.
"Enough about the dinner.
We are to be married in a few days.
The last priority is our share of vexing siblings, my dear niece" he said.
She smiled "When we are married I hope eventually we can fly far from Dragonstone and the Red Keep.
Forget the family they have built and build our own" she said.
"You and I are both heirs to the throne.
If we wait for our time we could change the kingdom together" he said.
"We will both be old by the time they offer the crown to either of us.
Our children will be offered the crown before we are" she said.
"If that is the case then I will take you away from this castle" he said.
She smiled "Of course," she said before feeling him draw shapes on her hand.
"I should go back to my quarters.
I do not wish to cause rumours of I stay for too long" he said.
"Sleep well," she said before watching him leave her quarters.
"I hope the same for you, my sweet Aelora," he said before closing her door leaving her alone with the sound of the fire crackling beside her.
He made her feel safe and relaxed.
His voice was more soothing than lavender and his touch made her feel things that caused the lower abdomen to heat up.
