"Good evening ladies and gentleman." President Icas says into a camera sitting across from his desk. Above the camera is the small screen that contains the speech he is giving. A few monitors that hang on the walls of the office show live feed of his citizens reacting to his words in their town squares. Their eyes never leave the giant screens before them as their leader speaks.
"As some of you may know already, this wonderful nation has been struck with yet another plague. For those of you who are not aware of the tragedy that has struck, let me inform you directly. Sudden Death most certainly lives up to its name, and is definitely not something that should be taken lightly. A person that comes in contact with the infection will feel symptoms no more than thirty minutes post-infection. From then on, the condition becomes worse and, they die within the day. This plague has impacted a large amount of people across our country, whether they have lost a loved one, family, or even a dear friend, but tonight is not a night to reminisce in the past. No, tonight is the night I bring my people hope! Tonight it the night I abolish the fear that this wretched plague has brought upon us! Tonight is the night I tell you that we have found a cure."
Cheers erupt across the towns at his words. They're mesmerized by him, falling victim to the semblance of their leader without even realizing it.
"After weeks of testing we have found a cure that shows almost immediate results instead of just delaying the effects of the infection. My people are doing everything they can to get the cure to everyone who needs it, but more time is needed to make more of this cure. So tonight, I ask my people for patience. Soon, this horrible nightmare will be over, and we will stop having to bury our citizens day after day. Stay strong my people, and as always, God Bless The United States of America."
The camera clicks off along with the monitors and the president leans back in his chair. His advisors told him that the speech was necessary because the people were on edge, but that didn't justify the lies he told. The truth was, getting blood for all of the patients infected was seemingly impossible at this rate. Containing the plague here and keeping people alive for a little longer was the easy part, but the unfortunate truth was that there were just too many people infected that needed to be treated, and not enough blood to give from the island.
A messenger walks into the room, interrupting the president from his thoughts. "The islanders are beginning to rebel sir."
"Rebel?"
"Yes. They're preparing for a battle, sir."
"Well then." President Icas leans forward in his chair. "Let it be known that our forces are not ones to be reckoned with. We need every drop of blood on that island, and if it is a battle they want, then it is a battle they shall get."
"Yes sir."
"Oh, and make sure no one is worrying. We are already one step ahead of them." The grin on the president's face left an eerie feeling in the room even after the messenger left.
___________________________Very short chapter, but I guess that's what it's supposed to be. This is the last President Icas view of the book, but from here on out its going to be a rollercoaster.
As always comment and vote if you enjoyed this small chapter.
