The moment Icas touches the tree, the whole battle freezes. No one can take their eyes off of our deteriorating symbol, and the only person who seems to be enjoying the process is the man who started it. His eyes begin to glow as the new power surges through him, and my hope sinks the brighter the light becomes.
Dalton is the first person to snap out of the daze. He dashes over to Icas' arm and with some incredible strength I didn't know was possible, he moved the hand away from the tree, stopping the power surge.
Even though he didn't drain the tree entirely of its power, Icas still began floating above the crowd, pieces of his metal suit dissolving around him. The suit was pointless now that he was almost invincible.
Almost.
I summon a boulder from the ground and hurl it at him, somewhat restarting the whole battle again. River quickly lights it on fire and soon a volley of flaming rocks spiral toward him. I see him smirk momentarily before lifting his finger and disintegrating them.
I curse under my breath before looking back at Zayin. Dalton is engaged in combat with him, allowing River and I to handle Icas.
Suddenly, Dalton is thrown across the ground with a powerful burst of energy. River calls out to him, but Zayin distracts the both of us.
"Ready to try this again?" He asks with a malicious grin. Without hesitation, I bring him to his knees with my trusty roots while River sets them on fire, similar to how we left him before. He struggles for some reason, which is new because usually he can deflect our powers easily.
"Look out!" A voice shouts from behind me. My attention leaves Zayin right as a ball of energy is flying towards my head. A block of ice flies by me, colliding with the ball and making it explode. I follow the ice source and see Joshua sprinting through the crowd toward me.
"Sorry I'm late." He smirks then looks around at the situation. Our soldiers seem to be struggling some, but for the most part, they're managing to hold their ground. "So what do we have here?"
I gesture to Icas who is currently floating over the battlefield shooting beams of energy from his hands to anyone below him. "He touched the tree then got a lot of power, so I don't know what to do with him yet." I look over at Zayin who finally managed to escape my roots and was currently in a fire battle with River. "He's just being obnoxious. I'd rather get rid of him first, but don't-," I explain but Joshua decides to take matters into his own hands and sends three icicles his way. For a moment, I thought they would pierce Zayin's heart, but he manages to dodge them with seconds to spare.
I finish my sentence, "Don't just throw stuff at him randomly."
"Oh, well I guess I should have listened to your entire sentence."
"Yeah that would have helped." Zayin whips his head in our direction once he knocks River down. "Come on, let's go." I surround Zayin with rocks and Joshua covers the structure with ice. I help River up as we hear Zayin yelling from inside the structure, "This isn't over!" I see cracks begin to form in the ice.
Another voice sounds behind us and I turn around right as Adriana says, "But it is." She turns to River, "Melt the ice for me." Then she looks at me an says, "On my count, release the rocks."
River's flames surround the makeshift cell, creating a pool of water instantly. Adriana begins creating a ball around it. "Ready?" She asks and I nod. "Go!"
I drop the rocks and suddenly Zayin is spinning around in a ball of water. We watch as Adriana wills it higher and higher into the air, and Zayin spins helplessly inside of it, slashing at the sides of the ball. Finally she turns to Joshua and nods. The water freezes and inside, a hand rests on the ice.
