When Jay arrived at the scene, his heart almost stopped.
Jungwon was fighting the guards daring to approach him with bare hands, howling obscenities, laughing at their pain, throwing furnitures and art pieces around, knocking people off in one hit.
It could have been comical, if his face wasn't half covered by the black mark, creeping up his skin at worrying speed.
Without thinking, Jay jumped in.
"Jungwon!" he screamed.
His voice was so loud that it made everyone take a step back, except Jungwon, who was still shouting.
Jay jumped behind Jungwon and came to wrap his arms around him to keep him from fighting.
"Stop it Jungwon! You're hurting yourself!"
Jungwon immediately stopped struggling, as if all rage had suddenly left his body.
"Jay!" he sang, with a huge smile.
He freed his arms with stunning ease and came to hug Jay, closing his lips on his, in front of a crowd of astonished guards.
Jay's worries were sapped for a second, until he realized he was not supposed to approach Jungwon and quickly pushed him away.
But Jungwon grabbed his wrist to keep him close to him and asked,
"Why? Why are you pushing me away?"
And Jay could not shake him off.
Jungwon's heat on the skin of his arm was too soothing for Jay to detach from it.
"You- you should let go," he could only murmur. "You should not be near me."
"Why should I not be near you?" Jungwon's voice wasn't trembling and wasn't tainted by anger, he was asking as if he already knew what Jay had in his heart.
"I'm...a monster. I'm bad for you. You'll be soiled if you stay close to me."
"Jay," Jungwon's voice was firm. "Look at me. Can you see what happens when you're not close to me?"
With reluctance, Jay raised up his head to look at Jungwon's half ruined face. It was so painful to see his putrid blackened skin, Jay was quick to avert his eyes.
"LOOK AT ME!" shouted Jungwon. "You're finally looking. Now, this is not your doing Jay," insisted Jungwon. "This is my birth gift, and I thought I'd die by it...until you came into my life.""You'll die by me if I stay by your side."
Jungwon came even closer.
"Do you feel the need to kill me?"
Jay felt a lot of needs, but certainly not to kill Jungwon.
"I said it in the past, you're the prophet of doom, I'm the prophet of salvation, we were born for each other."
Jay felt the familiarity of these words, that day, at the Palace, Jungwon was talking about him, not about Augustus.
"You're all I will ever have in this life Jay, so I beg of you, do NOT leave my side."Jay slowly put his trembling hands on Jungwon's waist, smiling.
"I feel like everything bad that happened to you was because of me."
Jungwon took Jay's face in his hands.
"I'd rather it being because of you than because of anyone else. So, be my shield, Jongseong, I'll be yours."
The two boys smiled at each other, and with no care for their surroundings, they went in for a kiss.
Their lips never touched.
An explosion occured, so strong that it whipped out half the room, killing several guards. Jay had just enough time to protect Jungwon before he was hit by the explosion too.
Imperial soldiers invaded the hall, brandishing their spears and swords, for the glory of the new Emperor.
From the dust filled air and the sudden chaos, Jungwon emerged.
"Jay?"
Jay was lying on the marble, unconscious.
"Jay! Jay, wake up!" cried Jungwon.Around Jay's body, a puddle of blood was slowly expending.
