"Welcome to Madeline Falls" Finally! I made it "BUMP! , BUMP!" The tires on my car sank into a pot hole in the bridge when crossing between the two halves of the land. God, I'm so tired, I would kill to just lay down. 15 minutes y/n you can do this. you've made it this long. I said to myself trying to ease the numbness I felt. By this time I had been in the car for more than 18 hours and I was exhausted, hungry, and dehydrated. The weather that day had been scorching hot causing my skin to stick to the leather leaving rashes making it super uncomfortable to just sit still. My mind wondered. 10 minutes away. Cmon! I'm so focused on relaxing and unpacking, Staring at cars in a parking lot, I spotted an ice cream truck. Looking at it from a quick glimpse before the car sped up past the parking lot. "Frosty ice creams" I had chosen to move to the small town of Mateline falls. A little city in Washington surrounded by mountains and forest with a population of less than 300. 5 minutes away. I gripped the steering wheel, little brick shops and buildings and quaint little houses surrounded by trees and road was most of this town. Pulling up to a red old fashioned metal gate, I drove in reading the sign "Sullivan creek community". I pulled up into the driveway of a two story house lined up with planks of white wood. It was a lot smaller in person. Picking up the main house keys from the glove compartment, I walked up to the front door and opened. Stepping on the grey carpet, taking off my shoes and laying down on the yellow couch in the centre of the living room. I groaned in annoyance. I still had hundreds of boxes to unpack.
God, these boxes are heavy. Bam! The boxes I had been carrying scattered all over the floor spread out with a bundle of books and snow globes. God dammit. I was honestly too tired to clean up but knowing me, sometime in the night I would go to get water and get a not so delightful surprise. After sweeping up the remains of my snow globe, I sat down on the couch too tired to change or get food. That would be tomorrow me's problem. That night, I dreamt about what I would do in the morning and after I had all of my shit figured out.
I yawned and stretched my legs then stretching my arms out. I was just as tired as I was when I fell asleep, getting up and brushing my teeth. It was refreshing to do something part of my routine again. I brushed my teeth holding onto my aching hips and observing the room around me. The tilled bathroom was very small, the walls were white and the floor was a deep blue, the arched doorway behind me was laced with light blue shower curtains. The foggy stained mirror was too dirty to see myself. This was a perfect reminder of what I was going to do today. As I washed my face and dried it, I planned out what I was going to do first, my head overwhelmed with things to do. Wait what time was it? Shit. I had been so focused by my current objective I hadn't checked what time it was. Heading over to the table and checking my phone, I tapped on the glass screen rapidly. Dead. I walked over to the only other open part of the master floor. I found the kitchen. It was six thirty Am. No wonder I felt exhausted. I had only gotten four hours of sleep. Looking at the bright side, I could get a head start at unpacking and have more time and potential to do more in town.
I sat down in the sofa. Eleven twenty Am. I only had three more boxes left to unpack, I was pleased. I was tired and sweaty but it was all worth it. I jumped up at the loud noise outside. It was a charming nostalgic tune, it was almost irritatingly loud and very hypnotic. If you have ever had a childhood, you would recognize this as the ice cream trucks song. At this point my head was hot and my shirt was sitting to my skin because of the sweat. Getting some ice cream on a hot day like this would be nice. Grabbing my keys and closing my door I walked out, the ice cream truck looked deserted. There were no children around? In all of Mateline falls, there were a total of only two schools. And elementary and secondary school. There would be children in this town, no? Less of a line for me then. I walked quickly across the street and approached the large white truck, decorated with ice cream themed items. Oh. Looking at the front of the truck, the grey stained glass window was shut. The window was too foggy to see inside and there weren't any signs signifying the ice cream man went on break. I tapped on the window. No answer. I slipped down the elevated side walk ready to walk back home, disappointed that I wouldn't get my much needed refresher. I stopped in my track when I heard a slide and click. Loud enough for me to hear, a walked over just enough to see the window. Apparently I was close enough for whoever was looking out to see me. "Oh, Hello there!" A charismatic deep bubbly voice called out to me. Hey, Yeah sorry I just didn't think you were inside. "Well I'm here now! Come here. Don't you want to try my delicious ice cream, hmm?" His voice was smooth and kind. Almost like he was speaking to a child. He seemed very giddy and gripped the window pane, gripping it tightly. But that wasn't the weirdest thing about this man. He was wearing an almost plastic mask. A full mask covering all of his viewable face. It was decorated to look like a cartoon character mascot with a cracked big blue nose, thin black eyes and Rosie red cheeks adorning a large black grin. The mascots tongue was visible inside the mouth and a little ice cream hat way too small for the mascots head was placed atop the characters head. "Come, come here. I have a gift for you". The man giggles to himself after saying this. It was creepy. I walked over, my legs controlling my mind, looking closely at the man I could notice he was absolutely massive. He looked taller than six foot and filled the window frame with his big body. "Good, that's a good boy/girl. So obedient ." Pardon? "So what would you like my dear!" I was shocked and dumbfounded by what the man had just said, my eyes focused on him. "Mr.Rod" his name tag said. What did you call me? "Is there an issue dear?" Yeah, what the hell did you just call me? "Call you what dear?" He laughed between his teeth. I stared at him up and down. Yeah could I just get a vanilla soft serve? I said in a sceptical and almost annoyed tone. After all how could I be anything other than weirded out and pissed off after what this random man Just called me. "Soft serve coming up my dear!" Yeah thanks. The man made me uncomfortable, especially after what he said. His gaslighting gave me a bad feeling. Before I could finish that thought, the man presented the ice cream to me. "Here you go dear." Oh yeah just let me pay first. "Pay? No no no!" The man chuckled, grabbing the window sill. "A pretty little thing like you doesn't need to pay dear." I clenched my fist and backed up feeling weirded out and uncomfortable. He continued to laugh to himself. "Enjoy my dear!" Yeah sure. I walked across the street quickly hurrying inside and hopping onto my sofa to stare at that ice cream truck. Fucking weirdo. I grabbed my ice cream, suspicious of it. I chucked it in the freezer and went back to watch the truck, only to see the empty street. What the fuck? This definitely wasn't the the best start to my new life.
