Five months earlier
I threw a knife, solid impact shot directly in the bullseye of a training dummy. I shake my hand off and take another one. I'm warming up for the morning. I always get here early and stay late. It's cold today, so I have on a tight jacket. It shows off all my curves, but I really couldn't care less.
Some more people start to arrive and I sense the familiar sense of eyes on me. I'm used to this, everyone looking at me. I can't help the fact I'm amazing. I smirk as I take three knifes at a time and hit the targets directly there. I hear a whistle from across the room as I turn and see Cato set his bag down. I roll my eyes and he raises an eyebrow at me. I put down my knifes and walk up to Brock who just showed up.
"I'm going to be putting you all through a series of brawls, whoever comes out victorious has a free lunch on me."
There are laughs. I start to panic a little. I might be good at ranged combat but I'm almost useless when it comes to sparing against someone. I look at the roster. Lucky me and Cato are on separate sides, so the only chance I'd have at sparing with him would be if I made it to the finals, which is unlikely.
While the spares were going on we were free to do whatever we wanted. I went back to the knifes and sharpened them. Brawl after brawl and then I watched at Cato dominated the person he was up against. He beat him in under a minute.
When my name is called I see that I'm going against a guy names Lewis. I take my spot as I feel everyone watching. I'm sure they wanna see how this fight pans out. I take my jacket off and face him. He's not too big but he could definitely overpower me. I tighten my hair as Brock tells us to start. He's holding a goddamn clipboard.
The fight starts and he immediately has me pinned down. People erupt with Ooo's as I roll my eyes and turn us around. I'm on top of his now with my hand against his throat. He smirks and escapes from my grip. He stands up and manages to get behind me, he kicks me down and I get up on all fours. I swing a leg at him and he wraps his arms around me. I stop breathing to process what he starts doing. He takes his hand and slides it up my shirt. I gasp as he whispers in my ear.
"Such a pretty girl, why do you want to fight?"
I scoff.
"Hey man get off her!" I hear a guy yell. It's Cato, I know it from the voice enough. "This is a fight not a playpen for you to do what you're trying to do!" Brock blows his whistle. I snap out of it and push my back against him. I knock him down and get on top of him, slamming my fist in his face. I walk out of there disgusted.
I compose myself in the bathroom. I place my hands on my waist. I feel tears starting to appear but I don't dare let them drop. I look in the mirror and suddenly I'm disgusted by how I look. I wipe the little moister from my eyes and walk out of the bathroom.
When I come back it's my turn to fight again. But this time it's against a girl. I have her in a neck lock and she taps me two times and I'm declared the winner again. I walk over to the knife station and throw a knife with all my strength at a target to release some steam. Footprints approach me and I don't even have to turn to know who it is. The heavy stomps, the sound of his jacket, even the little breathing I can hear.
"Just making sure you're okay, I know how violating that is."
"Huh?" I ask him.
"You're just like me don't you know. We're similar. Trust me I've had my fair share of girls throwing themselves at me. You're incredibly refreshing."
"Why? Cause I'm not begging for you to love me? Don't worry, I'm too focused on other things to worry about that."
"Ah." He says, a sigh escaping his lips.
"And by the way, I'm not some girl that'll fall for your act Cato."
"I know, that's what I like about you."
I hesitate.
"Well just making sure you're okay, good luck on your next fight Clovie."
I finally turn to look at him. "Clovie?"
"Don't like it?"
"Hey buddy, I hardly know you."
"I'd like to get to know you."
"Not happening."
"Jeez okay, bye Clovie." He turns around and my grip tightens on my knife. I grunt as he gets the last words. I turn back to face the target and a faint smile appears on my face. Cato Hadley has a nickname for me.
