REEF SLOWLY LIFTED her face from the dirt, spitting some of it out of her mouth in the process she slowly stood up and dusted the dirt off her plain white t-shirt, she adjusted her jacket as well before a small body collided with hers, they gripped onto her tightly like they were expecting her to disappears. She knew it was Mizzen from the fisherman hat that Reef rested her head atop.
"I'm here"Reef whispers as she gently rubs his back. "I'm here little Fish"
As Mizzen continued to cling to her she looked around her new environment, the first thing she noticed was that she and the other tributes had been dumped in a cage inside a zoo. The citizens of the Capitol from young to old have come to stare and gawk at the tributes like they were some form of Alien. The other thing she noticed was the Camera and a man standing in front of it and talking into a microphone.
Mizzen finally let go of Reef, and he looked up at her with a brave smile on his face, Reef then placed her hands in her jeans pocket to get her bracelet out but when she did she found out it was gone, she quickly checked her jacket pocket but it also wasn't there. A look of worry appeared on her face and Mizzen noticed. "What's wrong?"Mizzen asks his voice full of concern.
"My bracelet, I can't find it,"Reef tells him trying her hardest to stay calm, she can't lose that bracelet.
"I'll help you look,"Mizzen tells her before beginning to look.
The pair from Four began to rush around the cage trying to find the bracelet, Reef looked by rocks they had fallen but there was no sign of it, as dread began to set into Reef's heart she couldn't lose that bracelet, it was her connection to home.
"Excuse me"a small voice speaks up, Reef turns around and sees a young girl with brown hair and brown eyes that sparkle with kindness. "Is this yours?"
The girl holds out her hand and inside of it is Reef's bracelet, a relieved smile appears on the older teen's face and she gently takes the bracelet from the girl's hand. "Thank you so much...."Reef trails of not knowing the girl's names.
"Wovey"Wovey tells her a bright smile on her face.
"Well thank you Wovey, I think you saved my life"Reef tells her before Wovey runs off to her District partner.
Reef inspects the bracelet closely, it looks to be still okay, none of the charms have been dented or broken which was a major relief for Reef, she would be heartbroken if her bracelet got broken.
Reef walked back over to where Mizzen is stood looking for the bracelet, she tapped the younger boy on his shoulder who turned to look at her, and when he saw the Bracelet in her hand, a large smile appeared on his face.
"You found it?"He asks happily.
Reef smiles back. "Well....if you want to be technical it was Wovey who found it,"Reef tells the younger boy.
A look of confusion appears on Mizzen's face. "Who's Wovey?"Mizzen question.
Reef turns Mizzen around and points at Wovey who is sitting with her District partner who Reef now realizes is Bobbin the boy who tried to escape, the two tributes from Eight look to be deep in conversation.
Something else then grabs the pair from Four's attention they see the Capitol boy who was in the truck with them, he's stood with the girl in the rainbow dress and they are standing talking to the man in front of the camera. Reef watches as they bend down to talk to two young Capitol children.
A scoff escapes Reef's mouth causing Mizzen to look up at her. "What's wrong?"Mizzen asks curiously.
"The fact that, she is falling for his bullshit"Reef explains honestly.
An even more confused look somehow appears on Mizzen's face. "Do you think all the Mentors will be like that?"Mizzen asks.
Reef pulls him into a side hug. "Not all of them, just that one"Reef says as he examines the Capitol boy closely, something about him rubbed Reef the wrong way, she somehow knew he couldn't be trusted. "There's something about him"
Suddenly the door at the back of the cage bursts open, the large metal door slamming hard as it opens. A pair of Peacekeepers walk into the cage and go straight over to where the Capitol boy and the Rainbow girl are standing, they each grab the boy by the arm and begin dragging him out of the cage.
An amused smile appears on Reef's face. "And that young Mizzen is what we call embarrassing,"Reef tells her young friend.
A burst of laughter escapes Mizzen's mouth as he watches the door slam behind the Peacekeepers and the Capitol boy. "Almost like us being dumped in here"Mizzen responds.
Laughter escapes from Reef's mouth at what Mizzen just said. "You call it "embarrassing" I like to call it a "dramatic entrance" "Reef says as she pulls off his hat and messes up the younger tribute's hair, an annoyed look appears on Mizzen's face, his nose scrunching up in a way that reminds Reef of Dylan, he snatches the hat back from Reef and places it on his head.
The two tributes from Four make their way other to where a large rock is located in the middle of the cage, the two sit down with Reef's back resting against the rock and Mizzen rests his head against Reef's shoulder. The two tributes sit in silence taking in the world around them, the citizens of the Capitol staring at them.
"Reef?"Mizzen whispers quietly
Reef looks down at the young boy. "Yeah, little Fish?"Reef asks.
Mizzen looks up at her, a nervous look on his face. "Do you wish you were here with somebody else?"Mizzen questions.
Reef looks down at Mizzen, a look of confusion engulfs her face. "What do you mean?"Reef asks.
"Do you wish you were here with somebody who could help you win?"Mizzen asks his voice breaking as he speaks.
Reef places a hand on the side of his face, forcing Mizzen's sad brown eyes to look into her sea blue one. "Listen to me,"Reef tells him. "Nothing can change the circumstance we are in, but if I'm going to be stuck here with anyone, I'm glad it's with you. I will do anything to protect you and I know you will do the same"
A small smile appears on Mizzen's face, he brown eyes begging to gleam with hope. "You really mean it?"Mizzen questions.
Reef pulls him into a tight hug. "I promised you in that dirty-ass cattle cart that I would protect you and do anything to get you home and I always keep my promises"Reef tells him as she gently stories his back in a comforting manner.
Mizzen cries quielty and Reef just hope's Mizzen's mentor is just as willing to protect Mizzen as she is.
