THE NEXT MORNING the Monkey cage was very quiet, the tributes had mostly remained with their District partners. Reef was sitting with her back against the large rock that she and Mizzen had claimed, Mizzen sitting next to Reef his head resting against her shoulder.
"What would you be doing if you were back home?"Mizzen asks.
Reef thinks hard, it's Thursday and Reef would have to guess it's maybe Nine or Ten in the morning given how populated the zoo is at this time, her mind wanders to Dylan, her mom, and the twins, they would probably be at school.
Reef sighs. "I guess I'd be at school, I think I'd be in English right now,"Reef says, Reef has never been the best student but English class had to be her favorite purely for the person she sits next to. Pearl Fisher is the most beautiful girl in The Cove, she has long blonde hair and a gorgeous smile that Reef has fallen completely in love with.
Reef pulls herself from her daydream and turns to Mizzen. "What about you?"Reef asks with a smile.
"Maths, I hate Maths"Mizzen grumbles, laughter escapes from Reef's mouth at Mizzen's response.
"You sound like Dylan, he hates Maths too"Reef tells him her smile growing wider when she thinks about her brother, she's heard him groan a thousand times about how much he hates Maths and how he won't need it when he's a captain of a ship and Reef hears him out every time.
The peaceful moment is broken when a group of peacekeepers storm into the Monkey cage, they begin to take the tributes out in their District pairs, Reef watches as Velvereen and Facet are taken out of the cage, and the pair go with them quietly, Mizzen looks up at Reef with a look of fear on his face. "What's happening?"Mizzen questions.
Reef takes hold of Mizzen's hand and grips it gently. "I'm not sure just yet, but I'll protect you no matter what,"Reef tells him a confident look on her face.
A pair of Peacekeepers walk over to the pair from Four, they aim their rifles at them, Mizzen gripping Reef's hand so tightly she is worried the boy would break it, the pair stand up and are led out of the cage. As the pair are taken towards a truck, which is very similar to the one they were taken to the Monkey cage, Reef notices how quiet and deserted the area is all that can be heard is the chirping of the birds.
The pair a roughly pushed inside, Reef nearly tripping over but manages to catch herself, she turns and gives the Peacekeeper a death stare and the young Peacekeeper quickly rushes away. Reef and Mizzen sit down on one of the benches with Teslee from Three on Reef's other side.
After all the tributes are inside the door slams close with a loud thud, causing some of the tributes to jump in fear, the truck soon begins to move a nervous silence falls over the tributes, none of them know what is happening and their minds begin to fill with questions.
"What's going on?"The voice of Bobbin soon breaks the silence the blonde boy from Eight looking around at everyone.
"I don't know, it might have something to do with the Mentor thing"Sabyn from Two speaks up all eyes turn to her.
