A/N: Heyyyy, so this oneshot is a teensy bit angsty, more like it's just like a comfort kind of oneshot. Idk. I hope you guys still like it. 🥲
———————————————————————————
You were so tired.
You had just moved into Pelican town recently, and have been working your ass off trying to make something out of the land that your grandpa left you. You worked day and night plowing at the dirt, planting seeds, clearing debris, and overall just the maintenance that the abandoned farm desperately needed. Today was a new day, and you were already so tired from your morning chores. You trudged your way into town, looking to buy some more parsnip seeds from Pierre's.
"You have got to be kidding me."
Alas, you had forgotten that it was Wednesday, which means that Pierre's was closed. You put your hand on the door, groaning loudly out of frustration. All the plowing and the watering you had done preparing for the new parsnip seeds was essentially for nothing. You sigh deeply, deciding against going to Joja, since the place brought you bad memories, and decided to just head back home. As you turned around to walk back to your farm, you hear someone shout; "Watch out!!"
...
"Holy shit!! Im so sorry!!" You hear faintly, the ringing in your head muffling the noise. You grasp at the back of your head as you see a gridball roll away from you. Suddenly, someone lightly grabs your shoulder, making you face them. "Are you ok?" Alex says, looking you up and down. You quickly push his hand off your shoulder, "You literally just hit me square in the back of my head, do I look ok to you?!" You shout loudly, shoving him away from you. "Bro, I said I'm sorry.." he says, backing away from you to grab the forgotten griball. You glare at him harshly before quickly walking back to your farm, blinking away your tears.
...
As the sun slowly started to set below the horizon, you sit on your porch, staring at the very messy and unkept land before you. You put your head into your heads, sighing deeply once more. Suddenly, you hear footsteps approaching your farmhouse. You look up to see Alex holding a small red box. "Hey farmer." He says, using one of his hands to rub the back of his neck. "Hi." You say, coldly. "Hey, I just wanted to say that I am sorry, again, I really shouldn't have been throwing around my ball so recklessly." He says, sheepishly laughing. "I know that if I would've hit someone else like Jodi or Pam I never would've heard the end of it." He adds, looking down at his feet. "It's fine, I'm sorry for lashing out at you, I've just been having a pretty bad day." You say, refusing to make eye contact with him. "It's ok, we all have bad days." He says, offering you a small smile. You awkwardly stare at each other for a few moments before he adds; "Well, anyway, my grandma made you cookies as an apology, she even sent me up here to make things straight with you, and told me to not come back till I apologized." You look up at him surprised, as he hands you the small red box, and when you open the lid you see multiple chocolate chip cookies. "Tell her I said thank you." You say, looking back up at him, this time with a smile. "I will." He says, "can I sit here with you?" He asks suddenly, which catches you off guard. "Um, sure." You say hesitantly, quickly growing embarrassed from him seeing your farm in such a state.
"I'm sorry that the farm is a mess right now, I'm really trying to clean it up as best as I can." You say, looking out at your field sadly. "Don't be so hard on yourself, you've hardly just moved in." Alex says, bumping your shoulder. You tense up, meeting his gaze. Suddenly, you feel your eyes well up with tears. "H-hey! I'm sorry I didn't mean anything I just-" Alex begins to say, tensing up. "No, no, I'm sorry, it's just it's so hard doing this whole farming thing." You choke out, trying to wipe away your tears. "I just, I want to make my grandpa proud." You add, letting your shoulders slump as you let out ugly sobs. Alex hesitantly puts a hand on your back, slowly rubbing your back as you cry. "Y'know, I understand." He says, which makes you look up at him. "Ever since my mom died, I have just been trying to make her proud by one day going pro in gridball." He says, sadly smiling at you."That's why I practice everyday." He adds, softly sighing. You sniffle, wiping away your tears. "We just have to keep going, y'know, so that, one day, we can make them proud." He says, this time offering you a big smile. You softly laugh, "Yeah, I know."
You then reach out for the box of cookies, opening the lid and grabbing two. You offer him one, which he accepts. "They're still warm." You say, before taking a small bite out of yours. Your eyes widen as you taste the cookie, it's really good. "Grandma makes the best cookies." Alex says, already almost finished with his cookie. You nod in agreement before saying, "Maybe we should get into more arguments so Evelyn could make me more cookies." "Hey!" Alex says, playfully shoving your shoulder. You laugh, before finishing the rest of your cookie.
Alex seems to notice the time as the crickets start to chirp, quickly looking up at the night sky almost surprised the time had gone by so quickly. "Well, I should be heading back home, I don't want grandma to get worried about me." Alex says, chuckling. "Remember to tell Evelyn I said thank you for the cookies." You say, grabbing the box and standing up. Alex stands up besides you, offering you his hand. "Are we cool now?" He says, with a big smile on his face. "Yeah, we're cool." You say, giving you his hand. You guys shake hands and he jumps off your porch steps, "See you around Y/N!" He says, jogging off your farm and down to the bus stop. "Bye Alex." You say, smiling to yourself.
You look down at the box of cookies, and smile just a little wider. Maybe things aren't so bad after all.
