A/N: Thought I'd try something new with this one, lmk what you guys think. Btw, teeny warning for mentions of smoking, drinking, and angst, but it's all gonna be good, so don't worry my loves  ♡

p.s the song is "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" by Arctic Monkeys

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The mirror's image tells me it's home time

But I'm not finished, 'cause you're not by my side

And as I arrived I thought I saw you leavin'

Carryin' your shoes

Decided that once again I was just dreamin'

Of bumpin' into you

The music blared through your wired headphones, the cheap plastic earbuds blasting into your eardrums, but you barely even noticed, too busy in your own thoughts as you hauled jars of mayonnaise and blocks of cheese into the shipping bin for Lewis to pick up in the morning. You could've been more detached, more focused in your work, Yoba knows that's what you should've been doing, but after you first saw Sebastian at the Saloon with Sam and Abigail, you stupidly fawned over him like some love sick idiot. You didn't have a label for what you two were, not a clue what the unbearable tension and longing looks meant to either of you, but frankly, it was driving you insane.

As you slammed the lid to the shipping bin shut, one of your earbuds fell out of your ear, dangling down in front of your chest, only held up by the other earbud still in your ear. The silence, although somewhat interrupted by the music still blaring in the other earbud, surrounded you almost instantly. The distant sound of crickets, the croaking of frogs, the gentle breeze carried through the air and gently ruffling the leaves on the trees around your farm all surrounded you. It was late, almost 11 p.m. You sigh, pulling off the other earbud and shoving the wired headphones into your jeans pocket. It's on nights like these that Sebastian would text you, asking for you to come over, to keep him company. It's on nights like these that the two of you would spend hours into in early morning sitting on the edge of the Summit, feet dangling off the edge and looking over Zuzu city from above. You two talked about everything and anything, maybe share a cigarette, drink a beer. One time, he even offered you a joint. It was on nights like these that you felt that maybe, just maybe, something real existed between the two of you, like a flower blossoming in the spring, but..every time you left the Summit and headed home, slightly drunk or high, you felt an hollow feeling your chest.

As you trudged your way inside the farmhouse, kicking off your work boots and taking off your dirty clothes along the way to your bedroom, you glance at yourself in the mirror. You looked tired, and dirty, sweat glistening your skin, dirt and mud smudged all over your clothes and your hands. You sigh, heading to the bathroom to shower. As you wash off the grime and sweat from the day, you hear a notification come from your phone on the bathroom counter. Ignoring the noise, you continue to shower until you stepped out, towel wrapped around your body as you peek over at your phone.

"Sebastian: Wanna smoke?"

You stare at your phone, your hair dripping down onto your shoulders and your chest, your brows furrowing as you stare at the two simple words on your brightly illuminated phone screen. You should've ignored it, stopped this idiotic and tortuous game between the two of you, but you found yourself responding before you even realize it "Sure." is all you reply, before setting down your phone and drying off your still damp skin. You pull on a hoodie and a pair of pajama pants, your hair still damp and dripping onto the back of your hoodie. You pause for a moment in front of the same mirror, sighing softly, 'I'm so damn weak' you think to yourself, grabbing your phone from the bathroom counter and popping your earbuds back in before heading out. The wind ruffles your damp hair, shoving your hands into your pockets as you trudge your way up the mountain and towards the Summit.
