Is it Him?!!

Sujata came right on shift time in the morning to see if this Mr Mitter's brother had arrived.

She didn't see anyone around the bed, so Naren had probably gone to the house to receive him.  A bit disappointed, she moved to the remaining beds and then went for conducting check-ups.

After lunch, Dr Ghosh called Sujata and told her to come in the ward with Mr Mitter's file in 5 minutes. She had understood that Mr Mitter and Dr Ghosh knew each other well, so maybe he's coming there to talk to Mr Mitter's brother, who must have arrived by now.

She came into the ward as instructed, and found Dr Ghosh already talking to a man slightly shorter than height than Mr Mitter, roughly in his 60s-70s, balding, but the remaining hair totally silver, just like Mr Mitter. The man realised Sujata was looking at them, and turned his gaze towards her, adjusting the golden frames of his specs. Dr Ghosh turned around and called Sujata. He introduced her with a profound formal smile.

"This is Dr Sujata. She's been in-charge of the ward and Mr Mitter's health."

The man did a formal Namaste to Sujata and she did one in reply too. I feel like I'm in some black & white film! She smiled to herself. As she was still thinking about the Namaste, Dr Ghosh continued,

"And this is Mr Tapeshbabu Mitter, Mr Mitter's younger brother."

Sujata stopped in her tracks. Things here matched too much to be called a mere coincidence. She stared at the man and at the sleeping Mr Mitter and back to the man dumbly.

Is this for real?

Luckily no one there noticed her standing like a statue there, because Dr Ghosh was already leading Tapeshbabu outside the ward to discuss Mr Mitter's condition. Sujata caught hold of her breath and scurried behind them.

"Mr Mitter, as I told you on the phone, his condition was already bad, but the accident also affected his chest cavity making his condition nothing less than critical. We are obviously supplying all the needed medical treatment, but I consulted with a few more colleagues. We woldn't be able to save him in the long-term. I'm sorry to say, he may have only 3-4 months left. 6 to the maximum."

A second surprise! Sujata had known that Mr Mitter's condition was critical, but the 3-4 month timeline had shocked her too. Dr Ghosh hadn't discussed this with her.

Tapeshbabu took a few moments to respond.

"Is there.... Anything more we can do, a treatment anywhere else?"

"There are a lot of fancy treatments that way, Mister. But let me tell you, they don't make a lot of difference."

Tapeshbabu sighed. "Then what do you suggest?"

" You can consult any other Doctor too, if you want, but I'll suggest home-treatment for him, just to reduce his health problems till the time."

"I'll talk to a few more Doctors, and let you know in two days,"

"Yes, sure. I'll be happy if you find any useful help from other doctors."

Dr Ghosh wanted to talk to Tapeshbabu more, so he asked Sujata to hand him Mr Mitter's file and go for her work.

Mind swirling between shock, anger, sadness and even excitement, Sujata walked numbly towards the check-up room. She collapsed in her chair and drank some water. Her brains started working again after sitting alone like this for about 5 minutes.

I need to talk to this Tapeshbabu. But would it be appropriate, when he's in so much stress? But that's the only way I can find out. She decided she will ask Tapeshbabu when she gets an oppurtunity.

And luckily, she got this opportunity the very next day.
