1976:

The telephone rang. He picked it up. "Hello?" the person on the other side said something and he kept the phone without replying.

Sindhuja and Tapesh were watching all this.

He turned and looked at them. "Nothing, the same threat again."

This wasn't new to the Mitter house. He had received quite some threats like this before; once even had a stone thrown into their bedroom crashing through the window at night, but nothing ever happened. Probably he never let it happen.

She now spoke up. "This is the third one. I think we should be careful now."

He frowned. "Yes. Good that atleast Kaka and Kaaki aren't here. The way they're just sending threats again and again, I don't think they'd dare to actually do anything, but you two still be cautious."

"Yes, Feluda." Tapesh assured him. "This Chandan nagar case is getting a bit stretched isn't it?"

"Yeah. But don't worry, we've got some very helpful leads at hand already. It shouldn't take very long to know who this murderer, or more precisely double-murderer is."

Sindhuja watched as they both left home again, and she still hadn't been able to talk to him.

Two days later, he saw Tapesh rushing towards him from across the less-crowded street in the dimly lit evening sky. His brows furrowed.
What's Topshe doing here?

Tapesh came to him and caught up with his breath. "Feluda, what's happened?"

"That's what I am supposed to ask you; what are you doing here?!"

He blinked his eyes in confusion. "I got a call from Lalmohan Babu's place. Their servant said you both had left for somewhere near the Town hall... And that you had called for me too, because it was an emergency! I didn't see you there, so came here along the way searching for you two."

"What, No! I had been to Lalmohanbabu's house, but we kept no such message or anything... Topshe, that was a fake call; you shouldn't have come here!"

"But the servant's voice was unmistakeable, he was the usual one. I thought you really might be in a situation so I got here immediately."

"No no no... The bastard sending us threats is surely upto something... I had the murderer's wristwatch and proofs kept at home, we have to hurry and check if it's in place!"

They both almost ran to the other side of the street to the main road, looking for a cab, rickshaw or anything... That's when Lalmohanbabu's car honked to a stop in front of them. He stuck his head out of the window. "My servant told me and I realised something was wrong. What's the matter, Felubabu?"

But He wasn't listening, he had already pushed Topshe into the backseat and got inside. "Perfect timing, Lalmohanbabu! Just please quickly get us to our house. Quickly."

The driver immediately pulled up the gear and sped through the busy evening streets as much as he could. They would still take atleast 20 minutes to reach from this corner of the city.

Lalmohanbabu told, "My servant had got a telephone call supposedly from me asking him to give Tapesh this message. He said it was a voice the same as mine, so really thought I had ringed. I immediately asked Hari Singh to get the car and search for you."

He had been sitting silently listening. Then he turned to Tapesh. "Who is at home right now?"

 "Its.... Boudi, and Srinath."

"Did you tell her while leaving?"

"Yes, I did. She was quite concerned too so she asked me to go right away."

He frowned impatiently. "This is terrible. We need to get there as soon as possible."
