season one, episode seven

"Did you get any sleep?" Rikki was asked as she walked in the kitchen, finding herself to be facing sleep deprived Izzie and George. She shook her head, yawning in her hand as she did so.

Apparently, Meredith had brought McDreamy to their house, and decided to dance the tango in the middle of the night. And, of course, they hadn't been discrete, and the three roommates found themselves unable to sleep, surrounded by the loud noises.

"She could oil the bedsprings as a courtesy, or at least buy a padded headboard." Izzie said while making coffee for both Rikki and herself. When the blonde poured a cup of the bitter drink for her friend, she smiled as a thanks and took the cup in her hands, warmed by the contact.

Izzie exhaled sharply and made room for George to make a coffee for himself. "So, who's the guy?" He asked, curious, perhaps thinking Rikki and Izzie would know.
Of course, Rikki knew, but she wouldn't say it, since Meredith didn't want them to know, so she shook her head in response.

"You think it was just one guy doing all that work?" The blonde asked back, scoffing. Rikki held back a laughter at seeing her friend's face turn from sleepy to kind of offended.
"Do you mind if I don't think about that?"

"Oh, jealous?" Izzie humbled, mocking him with a little smile on her face. Rikki didn't say anything, but it was funny to see them like that. "I'm not jealous." He replied, quickly avoiding any other question by sipping his coffee.

"I am. But at least I know she'll be having a long day at work." The blonde said. Rikki turned to her, willing to say something to understand why Izzie looked as if she took pleasure in the misfortunes of others. In that case, in Meredith's.

However, as she opened her mouth to talk, they heard the sound of a squeaking door, signing that the 'mysterious guy' was probably coming downstairs and going away. The interns collectively moved forward the kitchen's door, willing to take a look at who the cause of sleep deprivation was.

Rikki knew there would be Derek, she was sure it was him, and it wasn't the best that others discovered his and Meredith's relationship.
However, when they all saw him coming downstairs and furtively going out the house, she still felt sort of shocked. It was the first time Meredith brought him home, the first time they had sex after they met. Did it mean they were now together or sort of?

"Well, at least we know brain surgery isn't his only skill." Izzie murmured, visibly pissed off by their discovery. George looked confused. "They can't be... he's her boss." He said, staring at the two of them.

Rikki sighed and shook her head. She didn't want to say anything. She understood where their judgment came from, but she was friends with Meredith and Derek and knew that it wasn't something they planned just for some favoritism.
